If you're going to try to race a World Cup DH for the very first time, why not go for the gnarliest one of the year?! Cecile Ravanel has been fully dominating the Enduro World Series and is making the jump to World Cup downhill to see how it goes. The EWS course are as challenging, if not more challenging than some of the World Cup DH tracks, so the crossover should be exciting to see. She has already won the EWS overall in the Elite Women's class, so why not? Here at Vital, we're extremely eager to see how she fairs!

from Cecile and Commencal...

We glad to say that Cecile Ravanel will race the DH World Cup this weekend in Val di Sole!

Cécile's comment: “To race a DH World Cup has always been a dream, but there was always something stopping me... Maybe I was just scared! Recently there have been a lot of people encouraging me to do it and this round falls at a perfect point in the year! Apparently VDS is the most gnarly track of the year, so if I'm going to be scared anyway, I might as well throw myself in at the deep end!”

This week will be exciting! Stay tuned!

I'm betting she'll be about 5 seconds down.

It will be interesting for sure. Considering she will have much more time to train on a single track (granted, that's one hell of a track to memorize), I'd guess she'll fare pretty well.

IFO would not be at all surprised if she got a top-3 result.

Getting more female rippers into the field is only a good thing, especially that Manon is out (or going to be out- still not sure if she is finishing the season or not?). But I doubt she will be on pace to challenge the top 3. While EWS is baller, DH is just simply different and there are tons of new/different variables for her to deal with. Especially at VDS, which is easily the most gnarly track of the year.

But, I wish her well and would be happy to eat my words come race day Smile

Mayweather vs McGregor

Atherton & the women's field vs Cecil

All these athletes crossing grey lines should make for a good sporting weekend Wink

I hope she wins. Predict she's top five.

It will interesting to watch. She'll be racing a more capable machine, doing basically the same sport, except without the pedaling to the top. Will she be stronger? Or will the differences between formats put her off a little? And how different are the riders at the top of each sport?

Good luck, Cecile!

She qualified 9th and finished 10th. Considering she's on a bike she barely has any mileage on, not to mention no full factory support for this race, I'd say it's a great result for a 1st timer.
