In designing the Podium Mud Guard, our key focus was on considering where the coverage is most needed for this fork.
Key points:
- The key zone to protect is the segment off the tire that throws dirt up into the rider's eyeline, which is then ridden into.
- Despite a shorter tail and longer nose, the coverage provided by the Podium’s mud guard is similar to that of a normal long mud guard when the fork is at around 20-25% compression, which is typically the case in a real-world riding scenario.
- Some people might also assume that having a large gap between the tail and the tire is ineffective. However, while less efficient at top out, that gap closes significantly under dynamic riding conditions.

Benefits of a high-mount mud guard versus low-mount:
The low-mount design adds a substantial amount to un-sprung mass - not just the mud guard, but also because of the increased size and strength of the stanchion guards to support it.
- A low-mount mud guard will also have more surface area for mud to stick to and has an overall higher static weight as well.
- A crown-mounted mud guard provides massive mud clearance and runs quiet, where rattling that is much more common from a low-mounted options.
- Secure and strong - at World Cup Enduro events this year, low-mounted mud guards were seen breaking off bikes. This is far less likely to happen to a crown-mounted fender that is securely fitted further from the ground and debris.
