I did a test this weekend with and without countershox on the bike. Nothing else was changed besides one on the fork and one on the seattube. The feeling in my hands was night and day more comfortable with Countershox. I was running data sensors on the bike for suspension, axles, bb and headtube of frame. 100% agree it could fit there. But then you are stuck with a progressive air spring. So it would be a trade off if you want to dampen frequency or have volume spacers. Also it was mounted to the “crown of the fork” where the volume spacers sit, it would be unsprung, so you might as well mount on the outside of fork like Trek is doing. You’d need to mount on or inside the fork lower to have it work like the Mondraker rear axle TMD

I’ve been running a CounterShox on my bike for a month or so. I’ve also tested in a motocross bike. On my DH bike I have one mounted to my seattube and fork. Heavier on the fork, lighter in the middle of the bike. Feels like a good balance from wheel to wheel. The countershox is set up in a way that dampens square edge and braking bumps the most. Think sharp high frequency spikes. Jumping the bike has less pop and is super stable off the lip. Really mellows out the kick. There are negatives, on the fork it...

This is a good point, the frequency of braking bumps and general rock chatter may be wildly different than say an extremely square edge but that’s liable to buck you forward. Depending on what the FMD is tuned to, it may have a big effect on kicky hits and minimal effect on everything else. It probably opens up a new way to optimize suspension tuning.

If you are bottoming out, add air. The primary job of a spring is to support the rider and bike, therefore bottom out events are an indicator of too little support from the spring. When fine tuning... And you want to use less travel while increasing the "playfulness/pop" from the rear shock, add air. Or, if you want to use less travel while "deadening" the shock, increase compression dampening.
