Hear what you're saying but I respectfully disagree that the widespread adoption of public kinematic graphs has been a net negative impact on MTB or even on brands. Yes, there are tons of people who suffer from confirmation bias while bike shopping or bike testing. Most people, in fact. But I think public kinematic graphs have helped make bike design better. Suspension designs are converging in a big way in the last five or so years, corresponding to the same timeframe when graphs have become widespread in product launches. We're mostly in agreement that wild curves in a kinematic graph...

If this is from the Taiwan Cycle Show and it's not the SRAM/RockShox booth, then whoever this company is will probably not get sneak previews from SRAM anymore. In addition, seeing 2-pot brakes with a Zeb tells me whoever set this up didn't put too much thought into what they wanted to exhibit.

Fair. If you read between the lines what I was suggesting when I wrote "everyone" (which was hyperbole) was to say the "rule" in the industry was forecasts were wrong. Most got it wrong, with Shimano being one of the only examples of a company getting it right ("the exception") ...but then again, comparing Shimano to Trek is not totally fair. Shimano has two key tailwinds in this situation. 1) They are a more upstream company. This means they likely have less "finished goods" style inputs (in the form of components) and more "raw materials" style inputs (literal materials they...

EVERYONE fucked this up, not just Trek. Not quite everyone. I know they took flack for it at the time, but it seems to me Shimano was one of the few companies to see the writing on the wall. https://cyclingindustry.news/a-year-in-review-how-shimano-has-navigated…

Coincidentally, the logistics and supply chain management industry are undergoing the same turmoil as the cycling industry. And this is exacerbated by today's geopolitics (Russia invading Ukraine, Houthi rebels causing havoc in the Red Sea) and climate change (not enough water in the Panama Canal). Ocean freight will continue to be more expensive and lead times will get longer. It...

Off-topic: "Ari" is a common Hebrew and Scandinavian male name. I know a couple of guys who would love to get their hands on a bike with their name on it. In the Philippines, however, "ari" means genitalia. ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯

If you want some crazy backstory on how the whole SIGNA sports background and how it collapsed, this is a great read. You can skim some if you're not into the business nerdery: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/postmortem-signa-sports-united-jacob-dud… It's from the VP of NA expansion and explains who the background financing/ownership was. This quote hit hard, for folks on bothsides of the collapse. " Today, at least for the U.S. bike business unit, there is a laundry list of unpaid vendors. Some have even attempted to hit employee’s personal credit cards with $80k charges because we weren’t allowed to put a corporate credit card...

Nigel Page just put a goodbye and thanks post on Instagram. I find this super sad, as he is one class act as a human being. I read this as in ”hopes were still on until the last moment”. I can't wish him and the team anything else but the best. I want to add one more thing here: I met Pagey 22 years ago at the Worlds. He was injured and watched the races from the side and somehow I ended up talking to him. Being the kid in love with racing that I was and still am, I...
