7 seconds difference is huge to attribute to the equipment. If you look at world cup racing as a game of hundreths of a second, improvements in the bike can be the difference in winning a season or a one off event like world champs. I think that video is a testament that the new bikes ARE SO MUCH better.

Our sport is in such a great/weird spot right now. Huge influx of new riders is great. More money coming in is great. More trails are being built, awesome. But at the same these new trail systems are the most BORING thing ever to ride. And people think these trails are the pinnacle of MTB.

I think they invoke the rules from "Whose Line is it Anyway": The rules are all made up and the points don't matter.
