Agreed 100%. I just wish I would have been able to make the rear end supple enough to save my old ankles. Such a nice ride with a 140mm 34 on it.

Nabbed a new Ripmo V3 for a good price. It's definitely a welter weight with stock wheels but a lighter set of wheels and tires decidedly put a good bit of pep in its xc-ish step. I had intentions of getting the rocker and clevis to turn it down to a Ripley V5 but honestly haven't felt the need to with the lighter wheelset. Likely will still at some point (tinkerers gotta tinker), but that's very low priority for now. I've only two complaints with it. 1. the tube in tube routing for the dropper prevented me from running a...

Totally agree on the frame set ripoff. I have to ask what is the goal of this bike? Are you looking for light and fast or fun play bike? Or a bit of both? For pure speed the Mondraker Raze, Pivot Trialcat Lt are the fastest 130mm bikes you can buy. Closely followed by the V5 Ripley. Out of those...

I'm hesitant to chime in as I see the discussion has veered pretty heavily towards pricing, but I'd throw the Ibis Ripley V5 into the mix. I've been on one for about a year and a half and it's a really impressive trail bike. 130/140 travel, 29 or MX wheels with a flip chip that keeps the geometry intact, well executed in-frame storage, and DW Link suspension. I run mine a few different ways - stock suspension (Float/34) for a lighter, sportier feel and a Vivid air/Lyrik for more support and rowdier riding. Also change up the wheels between full...

Thanks for the shout out, Spomer. Like he said, I’m pretty tall and I have very long legs for my height, so I’m one of those weird ones who loves 175mm cranks on my mountain bike. I find anything shorter feels like circus cranks a little bit, and I lose the ability to modulate small but forceful movements when I’m climbing technical sections. I also like the ability to go from 0-60 HARD when I’m cranking for a jump, catching up to someone faster than me, or racing. I’ve tried 170’s and 165’s and keep coming back to 175’s. I...

To all the short crank converts I thank you for making my preferred 175mm cranks so reasonably priced. I tried shorter cranks on my road bike many years ago. After a few weeks I switched back to 175s. I recently demoed a bike with 165mm cranks and was immediately reminded why I run 175s The loss in power was the...

I haven’t had any issues running EXO tires. I’d say your weight and ride style has more to do with whether a tire will or won’t last. I’m 175lbs with gear. So below average weight wise. I have a precise and active riding style. I prefer to jump over Jank rather than ride through it. I’m definitely not a plow rider by any means. Tire pressure and wheel choice are also factors. Sensible tires pressures will save your tires and your wheels. I run 23-28psi front and 25-30psi on the rear depending on the trail. So for Loma I ride...

The UDH has material that creates a slot for the hub endcap to help with axle installation. Transmission uses a 55mm chainline and the whole cassette is spaced outbound by 3mm, so when trying to use a Transmission cassette with a standard UDH, the chain will drag on this "slot" material when in the smallest cog. I love everything about my XO transmission except that it's electronic. Would trade for a cable actuated system with the same operating characteristics and durability in a heartbeat.
