I don’t disagree with you, and I just mentioned the DHF as it’s the most popular or one of the most popular in this category from Maxxis. This space has gotten more competitive though Edit: I’ll also add I respect your experience, you’ve been around longer than I have, and I know you’ve been on more options that I have. Cheers!

TEAMROBOT Added a comment about feature MTB Tire Test: Michelin Wild Enduro vs. e*thirteen LG1r EN MoPo

The difference is that the Nevegal was popular with SLOW people (editors, MBA readers, your dad, etc) and was never popular with pros (see: sharpie sales in 2007), whereas the DHF was and still is popular with pros. Also, I didn't say the DHF, I said Maxxis. Maxxis makes other tires than the DHF, many of which are great, but (other than Schwalbe) no other brand can put together a good tread, compound, and casing. My point is there aren't a lot of other good options. DHF, DHR, Assegai- these are the only tires I would ever buy at MSRP.

I don't understand why you would buy anything other than Maxxis or Schwalbe. 10 years later and still no one else can match these two brands. Maybe the new Michelin DH tires will work, but why wonder? I don't ride enough to want to potentially waste rides seeing if other tires work.

My understanding is that the new damper will fix that initial 10mm of travel and provide a more predictable ride. Get a new Debonair spring. That will cure the 10mm of soft travel at the beginning. FYI new springs are way cheaper than a new damper...

Re: names, I just kinda throw them out there. With Chocoluxe, the material we use is brown, and in internal testing, employees were talking about getting the "chocolate" upgrade -- "hey man, you got any of that chocolate new-new?" Had to put a little spin on just calling it "chocolate," so, voila ChocoLUXE™. A big reduction in overall friction like we were able to achieve, in part, with Chocoluxe can manifest in a few ways. Most obviously, the fork just "feels" better in the parking lot. There's no stick-slip in the stroke, it feels smooth and predictable. You notice that...

Hello Chaz, Good question. There are a couple benefits to the Ramp Control systems that I think beat tuning with volume alone, but it should be noted that with our Ramp Control Pro cartridges, you can can have both. For one, tuning with tokens is a "in the workshop" thing, whereas Ramp Control can be adjusted via dial. So, if it's a competition, Ramp Control wins on convenience. Second, there is some volume reduction that happens just by installing the cartridge, so it's providing some of the benefit of tokens plus added external adjustability. Third, sometimes heavier riders are forced...

Ramp Control- I've never understood this product. How is this better than position-sensitive tokens on your spring and to and speed-sensitive high-speed damping? For instance, I'm running my HSC relatively open to keep my fork supple on high-speed chatter and I'm running tokens to prevent harsh bottom outs and excessive fork dive in steep/nasty stuff. How would a speed-sensitive Ramp...
Digging into my memory banks, 1. Brendan Fairclough crashed in quali and finished 70-something at Pila in 2005, finished 3rd in the race 2. Mark Beaumont crashed and finished 77th in quali's in Vigo in 2007, won the race. Rain in the finals was a factor. 3. Adam Brayton qualified 80th at Champery, finished 6th. Rain in the finals was...

TEAMROBOT Added a comment about blog post Brake Levers...What is the correct set up?!

5/10/2020 11:53am
That makes a ton of sense that a longer bike would put your body in a different/more horizontal position. Seems like it'd be the same if you ran a super tall handlebar height- you'd want flatter levers to compensate. Also makes sense why BMX bikes that have shorter top tubes and lower handlebars feel weird with a flatter brake lever.

Height could have something to do with it. Remy, Loris, and Yoann are flat brake lever guys and they're all pretty short. But Florent Payet is 9 feet tall and he runs them pretty flat, too.

TEAMROBOT Added a reply to 2.3mm rotors on Shimano brakes?

5/7/2020 12:16pm
Dave, that's the idea. With fresh pads and a thick rotor there would be nowhere for the pistons to retract to, thus closer bite point. Sounds like it could work. Imma try it and let y'all know.

I’ve found 160mm rotors have too little stopping power in some situations. I can’t imagine trying to stop with 2.3mm rotors. Do you only ride in the flattest fields in the middle of Kansas on trails with zero turns?

Tried flatter levers, always felt awkward to me. Maybe if I rode in the Alps or Squamish every day. Agree you should try every setup but personal preference does factor in.

TEAMROBOT Added a comment about press release 12-Speed for All - Shimano's All-New DEORE Drivetrain and Brakes

5/7/2020 12:10pm
And if you want to get really weird, you can run an 11 speed SRAM shifter with a 12 speed SRAM eagle derailleur so the derailleur accepts the big range cassette. Wonder if you can mismatch Shimano shifters and derailleurs, too.

This makes me happy for all those mid-to-low-range mountain bikes! This range now has good suspension, good brakes, good wheels, good droppers and a good drivetrain. I hope the price of bikes are low to spread the fun.

I have 2.3mm TRP rotors mated with Saint brakes and no rotor drag. Go for it.
