There isn’t that big of a difference. Yes e bike motors are super weak compared to most dirt bikes, but all of them can be modified to remove speed / power output restrictions. If it’s a power output thing, why can’t I ride my crf110 at the trail center, it’s quiet, slow, and I promise to pass people on the left? Once something...more

Of course, I rode the trek superfly just outside Genoa Italy and then I’ve done some riding on my local trails on a Levo. I thought both were fun to ride. They are both obviously motorized, it’s a different sport. And I think that is my point. It’s not mountain biking because of the motor.

There are some parallels in my...more

Nicest guy ever, went out of his way to find a marker to sign my kid’s hat in the pits. Stoked for his amazing career and for him to have more time with his family!

Honest question: have you ridden any kind of ebike? (Not a Walmart special but a brand-name, legit ebike with big name components? Did it suck? Did it break?) Not saying you can't express your opinion without direct experience but it would help us understand your POV.

I've been riding MTBs for 30 years and I was pretty anti-ebike until recently. I'll spare you the long story but I'll say that these are the factors that have changed my mind. In no particular order: 1) I am a new dad. 2) my two year old has a chronic health condition that requires 24-hr-a-day care 3) as a healthcare professional, this pandemic is keeping me extra busy 4) I live relatively close to a pretty large trail system with big steep climbs and many even-steeper descents. 5) I am increasingly concerned about my personal contribution to greenhouse gases, so if I can ride from my house, that's another win for me. Add that all up, and the resource that is TIME becomes that much more precious. I don't own an ebike, but I *get* the appeal. I can't swing a $12K dentist's special like the 160e or the Levo SL, but I'll openly admit that I'm trying to find a way to add a ~$6K ebike to my garage. I recently demo'd a Canyon ebike for a few weeks and it was fun as hell. It had the same motor as this Yet - and I bet the 160e is fun, too.

Honestly wasn't aware the term 'acoustic bikes' carried so much distaste from fellow riders. I'm down to call bikes what ever people would like to help clarify the category of bicycle. Mountain bikes and electric mountain bikes. Down with that moving forward, cheers!

Preach it brother! A non-motorized bike is just a bike. A motorized bike is an ebike, unless it's got footpegs and a twist throttle, in which case it's a moped.

"Acoustic Bikes"? Hard nope there. Can we all just agree that the nomenclature for a normal fully mechanical non-motor assisted bike is a bike and a e-bike is an e-bike.

Those look cool as hell. Reminds me of the Bontrager XXX Crowbars so many of us shop guys were running twenty years ago. They were 4130, had a crossbar, and were quite wide as well. Being a Trek dealer we got good pricing on them. I think they were less than $25 after tax.

Deviate Highlander spotted in the pits.

I'm having a hard time not seeing this as a pull shock setup.

Agree, these look sweet. Granted this is totally a first-world problem, but to me it solves the 'hassle' of unlacing wet and muddy laces which are commonplace much of the year here in the PNW. I think they nailed it with all the shoes though TBH.

I have boa laces on my clip-in shoes and I really like them, I suspect I'll like them on flat shoes as well! :D

Lightest 27.5 DH bike? TREK SESSION 9.9 27.5

Aha that is very helpful. So the 'aft' cylinder contains the damper fluid and IFP, and the 'forward' cylinder is the air spring? Very trick.

Yeah, it's serial instead of parallel - the movement of the shaft into the damper displaces oil volume and that pushes on an IFP between the air spring and the damper oil, thus providing suspension. Same as Millyard, apparently same as 'tank suspension' smile

Other shocks are parallel, the relative...more
