Huh ? Fox forks are actually pretty exemplary as far as backwards compatibility of dampers go. I have a what is now a 3 generations old RC2 damper in a '23 36 chassis for example.

Few broad (highly speculative) thoughts as it pertains to Santa Cruz. First, I think its a bit of a fool's errand to say a brand is no longer "core" because they've grown or a more affluent buyer all of a sudden has taken interest. Yeah, maybe its a little bit of a sell-out type of thing to see 52 year old dentists driving Sprinter vans owning your product, but my Brother in Christ, this is capitalism. To a degree this is the point. To add, the entire company is owned by a multinational conglomerate. So any thoughts of "soul" or...

This is not a tech rumor so I’m not going to talk about this again. What I will say is we haven’t seen a single case of frame damage due to regular use. Frames are pretty overbuilt. Your wheels are more likely to blow up first. Ask me how I know. Off the top of my head, I can only remember two instances where serious frame damage occurred. One was improper installation and one was incompatible shock. We actually paid for the crash replacement frame for the incompatible shock case because there was a typo on our website that was...

The way to think about "how much travel you need" is how much you need to pump on your rides. People talk a lot about climbing, but in most scenarios more or less suspension travel doesn't make a huge difference in climbing performance (ceteris paribus). What is noticeable is pumping up and down on your bike to accelerate like you would on a pumptrack. People on rough and steep trails tend to let the bike do more of the work, whereas riders on lower speed, flatter, or rolling terrain tend to use a lot more body english on the bike...

SilentG Added a reply to Formula Cura 4 Experience

Have used nothing but Cura4 on several bikes over several years. No issues, basically bleed after cutting hoses to fit and then pretty much replace pads when needed, that is it. I prefer Galfer pads and rotors over the Formula versions but strictly preference there, nothing wrong with the Formula versions. Great modulation and power, the only thing that I...

I live at the northern end of the Black Canyon Trail (BCT) and ride it during the winter. The trail is north of Phoenix and runs through up through the desert to chaparral where I'm at. February is a good time - too early for the snakes and reptiles to be very active and in before it starts to warm...

I never thought I'd get to talk about the interest rate environment, capital allocation & what the past can teach us about the present/future in a mountain bike forum. First, Robot is right in the big picture that its not business Armageddon and rates have certainly been higher most of history. Funny enough, I think BofA released a chart showing the history of interest rates from ~3,000 BC to now (or at least it was circulating on Twitter/X recently). Turns out, for most of the period following the time of Jesus & the Roman Empire to now rates were somewhere...

The "free money machine" is turned off, kinda, but it's not like it's business armageddon because the Fed raised the interest rate. The current Fed Rate is 5.5% and, historically, that's not crazy. For reference, Paul Volcker bumped the fed rate all the way up to 20% in the 80's, which really is rough. For anyone who cares, I've included a graph below of the fed rate since 1954. For about half of the graph the fed rate is at or above 5%. The fed interest rate has been bananas since 2008 when it dropped all the way down to...

So run an Ohlins? Their 3 chamber air allows you to adjust the end stroke ramp. Not getting full travel? Back off the end stroke ramp air pressure. Need more bottom out support? Add air. They have a three click HCS system that doesn't use spring pre-load on the shim stack (they use an oval shim). Do you like very firm compression? Have the TTX18 re-shimmed from their documented shim bank. Lighter rider and like less compression? Their shim bank has that covered. With their shim bank you don't need to rely on guessing or some guru's claimed magic, it's...

Super helpful info as I also have a Zeb (non-Buttercup with Charger 2.1) that is quite good in the first third of travel but really hard to get in to that final third. Have been on the fence about Secus vs HC97 as the damper is fine and your explanation plus what I know about the Secus makes sense for...

You've got some good responses here... and I agree with most, if not all of it. That being said, the zeb is more subject to ramp up from air in the lowers then any fork I've used before, that combined with the relatively massive air spring positive chamber volume, can make using full travel a rare event. I have a 21' ultimate @ 170mm, that I've run stock, with a vorsprung secus and now with a vorsprung smashpot. In stock form, it was definitely very hard to get the last 10mm of travel while running the right sag and no...

I'm not a wheel guru and I don't play one on TV... As a visual learner I really dig this Park Tool video about spoke tension - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vFlKI_Brts I also like this one that I think I found on the Nox Composite's wheel building info/resource page - https://people.duke.edu/~hpgavin/papers/HPGavin-Wheel-Paper.pdf - it deals primarily with strength differences/non-differences between different lacing patterns but...

Have you guys seen the price of a sandwich or apartment lately? Seems to the ROBOTS like your human overlords are getting pretty greedy in most categories these days, not just championship winning downhill bikes.
