7/25/2024 9:38am You know what's really super awesome? When the SC bikes do finally get released like this, we'll get ANOTHER 5 pages of people rehashing the same points ad nauseum.

7/25/2024 9:35am Big brands know you were going to buy a Raaw or a Forbidden. You think they’re trying to compete with those brands? Heck no. They’re happy to let them get in on the niche end of the game. Big brands don’t have time to chase trends. They make big fancy bikes for people with teslas and rivianz. Dakine Fanny and...

7/23/2024 3:31pm A lot of folks don’t want long chainstays. I do, but doesn’t mean that “the market” gets it yet

7/23/2024 11:28am Honestly I would love a longer cs on the S4, so I don’t think the s1/s2 riders are getting shafted. There are arguments to be made for different ratios and you can’t make everyone happy so why not make a lot of people happy AND keep costs down a little?

7/23/2024 11:27am It’s symmetrical now so that’s a plus. So many brands run yokes, and I haven’t had any issues in the year I’ve had my stumpy Evo (which is less refined than the 15)

7/23/2024 11:29am New shock is almost entirely the same as a fox float. Both chambers can be tuned with volume reducers. How does it take customization out of riders hands? Charlie Murray is running the exact same shock from his StEvo with the exact same settings and just took 4th in his race on the sj15, so the bike vibes with non-genie shocks too. I hate proprietary components, but I’m curious what you’re talking about. Standard shock measurements, same fox internals as other shocks, and the bike works great with other shocks.

7/20/2024 8:34am It’s why I am obsessed with DH bikes. What clicked for me is that reaches got longer because HTA got slacker. But not for a handling reason: for uphill performance/seated riding position/front wheel lift, etc. DH bikes didn’t go through the same transformation because no one cared about front wheel lift when pedaling, no one cared about seated pedaling position...

7/20/2024 8:25am Ha. One thing I should note, just because I'm a disgruntled larger reach riding rider doesn't mean all bikes handle poorly. For years smaller and medium sized bikes have worked really really well. To add, don't forget back in the day, a size large was like 425mm, which would balance a shorter rear end fairly well. Once we strated stretching things out is where we went off the proverbial rails...

7/20/2024 7:38am Just drank some coffee so I'll play (ha). 1) On an academic level, someone who has a strong understanding of physics and mechanical engineering can chime in regarding how forces are distributed through the chassis into the ground via rider feedback. I'm not super interested in this, only because I already know the "levers" I can pull on the change this for the better (or worse) via frame geometry. The big takeaway here we all know to be true is riding through your hands is hard, riding through your legs is much easier. This hypothesis underlies this entire thread. 2)...

7/20/2024 7:38am What came first? A forward-biased attack position or a front center-biased frame geo?

7/19/2024 8:10pm This jives with what I have heard around and through the grapevine, too. I guess the bikes were damn near ready to go, but something happened when scaling them up for full production. Last I heard there was not even a hint of an ETA for release.

7/18/2024 12:02pm Alright what about this: The weight of a rider acts on a bike in one manner. But do to the rider being dynamic as well as the system of bike and rider being dynamic, energy/forces are added into the equation. You guys are right, the rider’s center of gravity doesn’t change, but there is still energy/forces present in the equation...

7/18/2024 10:08am In a static system I think you’re right? I’m just thinking about force and how and where that force is applied. The forces from outside tbe system (sytem being you and bike) act to effect the CoG (maybe I mean center of mass? Not sure) at the moment of the force. So the equation isn’t “body position on bike” it’s...

7/18/2024 9:41am Glad to see this thread revived. Based on admittedly very limited personal experience with just three different frames, I'm somewhat skeptical of the idea that if a benchmark frame size (e.g., a large) has a front center that is 65.0% of overall wheel base, making all other frame sizes ride as similarly as possible requires that they have an identical ratio. To me, it's felt like a 5% increase in rear center has more impact on ride feel than a 5% increase in front center. Would be curious to hear if anyone else has had the same experience. I am...
