Shut the fuck up about drivetrain efficiency. Holy shit. Go find a different thread.

Does anyone who's done this 29 link and 27.5 shock mounts have a BB height they can share? It has been a long time since I've looked at the Sight and don't have it in front of me to double check anything. By the dimensions I have, it would be an increase in travel, progression, and BB height.

Man do I hope to read some more opinions about bracketing in the tech rumors thread!

@TEAMROBOT I hear you on the blade, many years ago I snapped the tip off a Stanley and that was the end of that bearing. Dental picks work quite well, and you can also get shaping tools for pottery / ceramic art that are stainless and sturdy. My wife’s set might be missing one. I have absolutely no idea where it could be.

It depends on the shape of the spring curve for the air spring. The curve has a vague S shape to it. Initially it will be stiffer than a coil, then softer, and then stiffer towards end of travel (or not in some cases). A small volume air shock can have an insane amount of ramp to offset that mid-stroke range so the bottom out resistance from one of those is hard to beat. Meanwhile large volume air shocks often have worse mid-stroke and bottom out if they don’t have volume spacers installed. See the Vivid below.

Mayb the thread should be retitled, something like “tech rumors and innovation… and bitching about it.”

That will be a very different experience! I had one for a short time and adored it, honestly still wish I had one now. Keen to hear what you think once you have some time on it. Pic of mine because sharing is caring. I've also come off the Optic and snagged a very flash current gen ASR locally.

I'll be honest, 15% is pretty low. Not V1 Sentinel low but getting there. Definitely down in the "huh" range. The only way I'd ever expect to get that to not bottom out in the parking lot with a coil is run practically no sag or run an unreasonable amount of damping. I had a V2 Hightower as a personal bike for a bit. It was significantly more progressive with a little more travel and a little more shock stroke to work with. I put a DHX2 on it once for the sake of experimenting. At 30% sag it would...

In the time since this thread started, my Gen 2 Optic let go, so I'm upgrading to a carbon Sight under warranty. I'm converting it to 29/29 with the missing link kit and bringing my build over minus the suspension. Very interested to compare and contrast with largely identical parts and on the same trails.
I don't know about e-mopeds, but E-mtbs do need more maintenance then trad bikes - bearings don't seem to be much worse, but suspension gets worked harder and drivetrains get thoroughly abused. It's something that is pretty huge for me - the type of bearings, the way they are arranged in the frame (eg widely spaced and using double shear bolts) and how easy they are to replace. A lot of frames use massively undersized bearings so I would look for at least 69XX or 60XX sized bearings in all the pivots. Specialized mostly uses 6800/1/2 in their pivots, and...

Long time lurker, first time poster here. For some background I’m an aerospace composites engineer and spent several years in Advanced Product Development with an emphasis on environmentally friendly materials. There’s so much to get into on this topic and if folks are interested I’d love to start a dedicated thread on materials and environmental impacts. The TLDR is, carbon fiber as a green product on its own is a fallacy. The raw fiber production may result in a certain level of carbon sequestering, but the process is still so energy intensive I wouldn’t call it an environmental positive. As...

I've heard about that. It's Enduro that's willing to give up its right to vote in order to disappear and be protected from the horrors happening to other racing genres. Right?
