AgrAde Liked a reply to forum topic Modern Geo Talk: Chainstays, Stack, Reach, and Bitching About It

That's pretty funny. The whole discussion is completely meaningless without camber/rocker/sidecut/stiffness/width/area being taken into account. Almost as meaningless as this thread i suppose. You can chunk up bike design into fairly separate parts - geo/wheel path, kinematics, stiffness.. to a point anyway, they're still very interconnected obviously. But you can nail one and not the other. Ski design is holistic voodoo, everything is connected to everything else.

When I say that long chainstays can feel like “a lot to turn,” I’m using colloquial language based on how they are often described by non‑Cahal believers. What I actually mean is slightly more specific. If we treat the head tube as a pivot point and assume identical front centres, then comparing two bikes: one with a short rear centre...

Flick-ability could likely be definable along a spectrum based on the amount of input force needed to change the direction of the bike. How this direction change is defined or quantified would be situation dependent and further define what is flick-ability for each person. However, the concept remains the same. If your goal is to perform a moto-whip in the air, a bike that takes 10N of force to throw the back end sideways would be more flick-able than a bike that takes 100N of force. You could then assess what variables on the bike affect that required force, i.e...

Shorter rear centre (chain stay) means heavier weight bias over the rear. Long rear centre will induce naturally occuring oversteer more often than short. Try two of the above in fast flat gravel turns and the difference is immediate. Flickable comes from the idea that a bikes rear end is more easily manipulated around tight obstacles. With short chain stays...

According to the pinksite, both Brook and Jacko have posted their laydowns on Instagram. Would be nice if anyone could post in here when they get a minute.

Was this a story? Is it still possible to get a screenshot of what he said or wrote? Thanks, from the non-socialmedia crew.

I'm not 100% opposed to that idea, but I think it comes with a few caveats. A shorter final will make for a better media product, but overall worse for us hardcore fans. That would have to come with Youtube live Q2, so you can still have a chance to watch your favorite riders. And the tracks would have to be more difficult with impressive features if you're really trying to catch the barely interested TV viewer. Then you will need more non-endemic sponsors because Larry watching channel 23 doesn't give a shit about which suspension brand offers the most...

Now I want to solve bike design as much as the next guy but after that description of pedal kickback and finally watching the video, I gotta ask.. If it sounds like a cult leader, operates like a cult leader and looks like a cult leader. Is it a cult leader? Old mate is addicted to his one truth. I...

I look at those quotes and see someone who seems to be dealing with depression rather than entitlement. But to each their own.

No hate. Really want to see the guy do well again. The evidence is there so people can go and listen, then make up their own minds. I appreciate the honesty from him and other riders in the scene. The difference between Greg, Gwin (who have also been vocal at times re equipment issues) and Brook, to me, is not...

This. Love the guy, his riding and the story. I don't think he has anything to prove to anyone. Oddly frustrating to watch him point finger at things around him, say like every 4 words and have little self awareness. Obviously very unsatisfied with how things have washed out lately but it's seems to be holding him back rather than...

I think the pad is there since it's assumed riders will be clipping it as they try to stay tight through the chicane. A single pole would likely get kicked out repeatedly. I'm not saying it's possible in this section, but since the pole is outside the pad, wouldn't it be legal to jump over the pad instead of zig-zagging around it?
