There's two things in my opinion: The design of the B line for that jump joins back up in the landing of the jump. The B line should continue further along the course, maybe to the next corner. Hard to tell from the video, but it looks like that would've been possible. HT guy is a cool story and all, but at the World Cup level I don't think the novelty bike should be a thing. I'm sure he's fast as fuck, but he'd certainly be faster and more competitive on a full sus. But he somehow navigated the red...

A more relevant question would be how old is my gray matter?

I feel bad that I don't know the difference between Bode Burke and Bodhi Kuhn. Looking them up now.

Huck that thing somewhere like Rampage, but don’t piss in someone else’s Cheerios with the “Look at me”. Did he earn the required UCI points on that bike?

The hard tail just magnifies the situation. Asa, Tyler and the Alran’s shouldn’t have been seeded that far back. When Jackson and Jordan came out of Juniors they were placed just behind the top elites, not sure what’s changed in the rule books.

Hardtail guy is Marcin Matuszny, he's a big organizer in the Polish DH and Freeride scene. Riding the HT is his thing, it's not about affording something else it's just what he chooses to ride. That's cool, but I'm not a fan of putting that on a track with elite riders racing for a living at double his pace.

“The Formula 1 of bicycles!!!” If this crap is true about Hardtail Dude being involved in Wyn’s crash, then being off-pace during Asa’s run, how in TF is the UCI allowing this? Could Asa, Amaury, or Loic put a hardtail inside the top 30? If the answer is no, then there should be a minimum equipment spec to be able to enter. Most every sport that involves wheels won’t let you enter elite level races on garbage. If you can come up with the money to go the path of entering a WC Downhill you can afford a DH bike...

In fairness he did pull off to the side, didn't look like Asa lost any time there at all.

I'm not going to cast too much shade on Hardtail Bro. I will, however, cast plenty on the mixed messaging and policies of WBD/UCI. Their implied goal has been to raise the professionalism and elite nature of the sport. Simultaneously, they've allowed a racer to use a hardtail to compete. This is inconsistent with the way they're supposedly pushing the sport. I also will cast a little shade on our community. We've bemoaned the loss of grassroots accessibility to the World Cups while also bashing hardtail dude, who represents just such grassroots privateerism. Dude managed to navigate the red tape...

Dude you’re not kidding. every garage in my neighborhood has a couple bikes in it and ZERO people give a shit about how I finally found a Doubledown Aggressor. I’ve even caught a couple of them look at me weird when I’m checking my wife’s e-scooter tires with a digital gauge. Retired Coast Guard neighbor looked me straight in the...

I think one of the largest "We're not in Kansas anymore" moments I had when I began working for a component manufacturer after years in bikes shops was when I had the insignificance of aftermarket sales explained to me. Don't get me wrong, every brand worth their salt is going to support aftermarket product bc why leave money on the table, but OE sales are king in the bike industry and ultimately OE sales drives every design decision. SRAM gets to push the convenience of full SRAM spec by limiting cross compatibility. For brands like Canyon, Specialized, etc., who are...

😂 name checks out! most of us probably have too much to unlearn to excel with ABS on mountain bikes right away…to be able to hammer the front brake on wet roots or whatever… surely ABS allows for some techniques that’ll be uncomfortable but way faster.

You must not have ever ridden moto. Using the rear brake in the air is a definite technique to bring the front end down a bit.

A car ABS system will monitor the wheel speed front and rear, whilst also take in information from an accelerometer to decide if the wheels are not moving but the vehicle is. Stability control is similar, but also monitors vehicle yaw, steering input and all 4 wheel speeds and modulates pressure to individual wheels. Bosch do some pretty high end motorsport ABS systems, i'd expect they're looking at the accelerometer to determine things like if you're in the air etc.

It depends what settings you have the system in. I wrote an article about it recently for a print magazine here in Aus. I would bet (and hope) whatever is being used here is much more advanced than anything available to the consumer currently.
