Thanks so much for stating low stack is a con. An XL bike with stack less than 645 is not an XL bike. Yes we can add spacers, but robs you of reach. Compliant riser bar options in 50mm+ range don't exist yet, just DJ bars that beat the shit out of you, or expensive Enve or custom Ti options.

10/11/2022 12:45pm I've found that if the preload is insufficient the spring will brush up against the "rub guard" and make a noise that resembles what you are experiencing on compression (not the tire rub). One criticism from Vorsprung and others from the recesses of the internet is that Grip 2 VVC is incapable of achieving high levels of compression damping. Were max compression settings on the Charger 3 noticeably greater than that of the Grip 2 VVC, in your experience?

same here, 650 stack bike, 30mm under stem and 38mm rise bar at 6'1. On an XL bike with 505mm reach it's pretty much perfect fit for me, but I wouldn't want to be much taller.

Is it an engineering challenge to pull off mucho stack for XL and higher sizes? I'm 6"1" and running 30mm of spaces and a 35mm rise bar on a bike with same stack as this ones XL (642).

I've had a split clamp stem (different brand, but very similar) for almost two years with no problems. That isn't very long, but for reassurance check out how many DH stems use this style of clamp.

I'm always curious about spank stems because they have a lot of length options to fine tune, but the split clamp kind of sketches me out. Are those interfaces robust and I'm just being paranoid?

I'd counter that 26/27 is within the range of average pressures. Pressure is pretty terrain-dependent, and while that might seem high for PNW conditions, 26/27 is pretty normal for many other areas.
