It the Bosch vs Avinox regulatory/sustainability approach simply a matter of regional company culture? Bosch being German is used to dealing with the EU environmental and product regulation. I imagine they have some consideration for sustainability of the product category and the perception of the regulatory bodies. Avinox/DGI is Chinese and operating in their "regulatory" environment. The Chinese tech approach seems push out product with the highest possible specs with the lowest cost, leveraging the huge production capabilities and leaving the consumer to figure out if it's legal, sustainable or ethical in their region. If the product saturates the market...

Surron had a prominent presence at Sea Otter, and a number of kids were riding these e-motos (along with pit bikes) throughout the expo in ways that were disruptive and inconsiderate. I’m still developing my perspective on high-powered eMTBs (which I consider a separate thing), but it’s hard to ignore how often these machines seem to encourage poor behavior — or at least attract it. I often hear the argument that it’s better for kids to be outside on bikes (of any sort) than indoors glued to their phones. In principle, I agree. But increasingly, it feels as though the...

Happy to be corrected. I was doing some research on tabless battery types and 4680 cells were the latest ones I could find. However the math wasn't adding up for me because the FP700 could only fit 7 of these cells, leaving no room for any of the extra hardware and only giving about 600wh of capacity. This new 50480...
Correction: Avinox actually designed their own cell. I'm kinda surprised, but maybe not for a company their size. The 5048 cell they used in based off the tabless 4680 design that Tesla came up with, but appears to optimize the shape for the "right size" downtube. I stick by my take that the automotive industry will keep driving the future...

I'm curious.. How does the staff feel about doing the coverage like this? I've personally liked it. Plus, the fact that others have been able to contribute what they saw and liked at the otter is pretty cool...

This Just In! Stark Motorcycles is going to be joining the MTB world with its EBike Called the Stark “NotaMoto”. This ebike has 80 horse power and a gear box. Apparently they made the decision to join the bike industry after one of the executives said- “ I mean its all bullshit. You can buy an ebike from Specialized at the same price as our motorcycles. But with like 1/1000th the power. We should just put mountain bike wheels on a Varg and just sell it to them. Theyre just in denial that they want a motorcycle and want to...

Yet another DJI / Avinox / Amflow update (and correction) live from Sea Otter. When I asked about the relationship between DJI, Avinox, and Amflow, I was told they are entirely separate from one another. DJI incubated the motor program and then spun it off, branding it as Avinox. Amflow started as a proof of concept and was also spun off completely from both Avinox and DJI. They were firm in their independence from one and other. When I pointed out to the Avinox employee that we were standing in a shared tent (Amflow and Avinox were sharing Sea Otter...

TRP DHR evo lever / Maven Base update. I set these up with maxima mineral oil and Shimano BH90 hose, and just a simple Shimano style bleed cup bleed after pushing oil through the lines. I also did a comprehensive piston massage procedure. I did one shuttle day on the setup, and impressions are that this combination is quite good. The lever stroke is very acceptable, bite point feels well defined and does not wander or pump out at all, and the maven power is also there. Good modulation, as you would expect from TRP lever. I've got the stock...

Quick update for clarification. It does appear that DJI has officially spun off Avinox and Amflow as wholly owned subsidiaries. They are working hard to distance both brands from DJI while still owning them, which in my opinion is primarily for tariff reasons. I don't read Mandarin so I had to use AI to help with the research, but here's what the Chinese corporate registry data shows: DJI senior management member Song Jianyu is the legal representative of the Amflow entity, which is held by a Hong Kong shell company called Worang Technology. If you guys want, I'll spend the...

What Amflow may, or may not, have started as is definitely not what it is today.. I would love to see the Amflow numbers next year after the market is saturated with the new Avinox motors... 15 plus bikes dropped this past week?

That's from them, when I posed the question about being in competition with themselves. I'm not naive to think that it's a clean break but the whole Industry will be watching them to see if orders will be fulfilled on time, that Amflow doesn't receive their allocation before others, and that Amflow doesn't start undercutting everyone when they start feel...

FWIW Amflow is no longer under the DJI umbrella and has broken off into its own entity. DJI is also acutely aware that if Amflow is perceived as being owned and operated by DJI, and undercuts their customers, that their business model will become a little bit more tenuous. I'm curious what the outcome will be on this topic.

The Vancouver hardline is going to be bonkers. You can take a city bus to Cypress. Compare this to tassie or even the wales site where you had to either make a big flight or drive a long way. They could literally have every inch of the course covered with people if they want. What a treat for us west coasters. Never could pull the trigger on flying to watch a WC on the east coast, now we have WC Whistler and a hardline in the same year.
