teamrobot set a record for forum thumbs up, so here's a preview of what's to come (unlisted, only for the special people in this forum topic) regarding taking out pawls and testing ochain.

Would y'all want to see a 15-minute VitalMTB video with back-to-back testing on a section of brutal rocky chunder with different pedal kickback theories to see if the Ochain really works as advertised?

Just so you know, you argument is invalid as you keep moving the goal posts. First it's, lockouts saved so much time on the flat. I referenced the actual timing of the athletes with lockout and the race timing and it's sector 2 that decided the race, followed by sector 3, sector 4 and 5 are both so short and the timings so close it didn't make the race at all. But now you make an argument that can't be disproven, that the athletes were faster than they would have been. Well maybe, we can't disprove that but again, sector...

Your trail bike idea exists. It's called the Trance X Advanced Pro 29 1 with Fox Live Valve. Plots show anti-squat sitting below 100% in most gears, making it a good candidate for active damping.

because it normalizes overall brake performance with regards to varying pad compound. its no secret that a good brake system can be hindered by mediocre pads and that you can improve performance of otherwise meh brakes with better pads. i agree that there is value in testing brakes wholistically as people will buy them (including OEM pads & rotors as you mentioned), or a bike that they are spec'd on. however the kind of bike nerd that's reviewing a table comparing peak brake forces and deceleration times is also the kind that is more likely to not replace their pads...

This tire is from a design that is probably older than you. Before the DHF was even a thing, a lot of us in here ran this tire and it was awesome. Except for when the side lugs used to tear super easy, but hopefully they fixed that.

Great news! The Assegai, DHF, and DHR2 are all available in a hard compound with DH casing. Maxxis calls it "Dual Compound." All three of those are available in 29 and the DHR2 is also available in a 2.5x27.5. So everybody gets a long wearing, durable rear tire. We just had this discussion (at great length) in the tire forum: https://www.vitalmtb.com/forums/hub/tire-chat-nerds-only?page=3#comment…

So many comments recently with people being overly pedantic about reach numbers. (Not just here). 10mm is literally nothing. Swap a 50mm and 40mm stem , get narrower or wider bars, try a different back sweep. Get thinner or thicker grips, bar roll stem spacers, adjust your cleat position etc. H ell, the hand position difference between single collar lock on grips and double collar probably changes your torso position as much. Reach is just one aspect of bike fit. Writing something off because the reach isn't exactly a perceived magic number by 10mm without trying it is very close...

It's slightly less exciting than it sounds. The "bunker" was just for datalogging and tuning start-stop/idle/stationary emissions/etc., basically anything that could be tested without a road speed. It was a effectively a several acre area surrounded by a wall of 2-high stacked shipping containers. Anything that saw road time was heavily camo'd, like these bikes.

I don't get all the fuss about the diapers. Prototypes being tested/validated in public, while heavily camouflaged, is common in all industries. It protects under-development IP and also allows less-than-production-level parts to be used without the scrutiny of the public eye. We built an entire bunker to hide our test vehicles when they weren't on the road, and when they...
