One of the runs I had in mind was Brendan Fairclough, Schladming 2007 (?). He was up on Sam Bill’s split before having a massive wreck and having to run back up a steep slope to collect his bike. I think he still ended up in the 20s. I believe Blenkinsop won that year, but maybe it could’ve been Brendan...

Kovarik's run at Mount Snow NORBA National with all the world's best there at the peak of the tractor trailer teams the year he won Ft. Bill by 14 seconds. He was the fastest racer in the world and at his peak, utterly untouchable at that point. Fastest qualifier by a long way and blew his wheel apart off screen somewhere. He never won there b/c his wheels disintegrated 3 years in a row with him trying to limp a warped rear to the finish and still finished top 10 on third attempt That Mt. Snow result, standing track side...

Its gotta be Sam at Val di sole. I remember watching it live at the shop I worked at in college, my jaw was on the floor when he washed out. A close second is Ratboy at World Champs in Hafjell. 40 foot jump to flat, breaks ankle, can't pedal, coasts to the finish line, misses out on being World Champ by 0.4 seconds.

A few days ago I was listening to the most recent episode of Andrew Neethling’s podcast with Matti Lehikoinen and Matti brought up that before having a massive crash, he was actually up on Sam Hill’s race winning split time. I’d never heard that stat before, and it got me thinking of the other race runs that “could’ve been” that...

Cool to know that one works, I thought I saw something on their website about sizing only working within + or - 2mm, I guess 2.5mm isn't that far off, haha!

Oh wicked! Which Springdex are you running? I looked at the compatibility page on their website and I didn't see one that fits the 205x62.5mm shock that comes with the bike. Do you have a different shock in the bike?

Is that a Springdex in there? I have ordered a Range and I've been considering getting a Springdex for it, but I wasn't sure if I would be able to adjust it given there is not a ton of space around the shock on that frame. Let me know if that's what I see on your shock and if so, how it is!

I’ve broken 3 Reserves over the past 3 years (one front and two rears within a month of each this summer). I’m pretty sure each of those failures also had some element of side impact, as well as just hitting very sharp rocks very hard in compressions (both rear wheel failures happened with Super Gravity casing tires and CushCore). Otherwise the performance of those wheels has been pretty solid, and I’m sure I would’ve gone through far more aluminum wheels/hoops during that time. I did have one issue with the warranty where Santa Cruz/Reserve essentially forgot about my warranty claim...

This series is great. I love the bit where Shawn Neer is like "did you black out or did you not go hard enough?". Even just racing regional and national enduros, I feel like the level you have to push yourself physically is pretty dang high, so I can't imagine how hard the top EWS guys are going.

EBlackwell Added a reply to Snowshoe World Cup DH Finish Feature

As a life-long wood feature hater I am against this both on a principled basis and on a case specific basis, haha. Wood features are bad generally, and this wood feature looks especially bad. This is a WC downhill track, not a slopestyle course, and this feature looks downright dangerous at WC DH speeds (arm chair expert rant over). On...

According to Pivot's website, the STA on the stock Phoenix is 76 degrees. Assuming this is with a 200mm fork, this 'enduro' version probably has a steeper seat angle, as the front end is probably lower (although long travel SC forks can have a pretty long axle to crown). I'd wager the steep STA is a big part of why this bike can pedal uphill decently at all. While suspension design matters, in my experience, being in the more biomechanically advantageous position that comes with a steep STA makes a huge difference on steep climbs.

Good on Sven for asking the tough questions to Thibault about concussions. I can’t help but think they were taking a serious risk letting him ride and race. While he said he played it safe up until finals, this is downhill, everyone has had big crashes when they aren’t nt expecting it or playing it safe. While that was a pretty incredible performance, part of me thinks it shouldn’t have happened...

EBlackwell Added a comment about news story FINAL RESULTS - Les Gets World Cup Downhill

Downhill is a wild sport! Reece's run was something magical. Also interesting to see Isak on his DIY bike sneaking in ahead of Gwin, that will be a nice bit of satisfaction for him!
