12/23/2025 1:38am I was the one who originally floated the idea of maples to frameworks in the forum, people could have just read that and assumed I knew something.. but I didn’t, was just going off nekos vibe when commentating his runs. OTB podcast quite confidently said maples to pivot last episode.. but they are practically a bikepacking podcast now so can they really be relied on for mtb news? Hard to say.

12/22/2025 9:08am This is fast becoming one of my favorite podcasts, well done y'all! The production part at the beginning was so good, I'd happily listen to a multi-episode deep dive on the entire process, especially all the little details we never hear about (3d-surfacing, multiple versions of drawings, the difference a particular production line at a given factory can make etc. I had NO idea!)

12/21/2025 1:36pm In no particular order. Loved: Trails builders and the people that maintain the trails in the areas where we ride bikes. These legends will never get enough credit. Loved: Bikes are sooooo damn good at the moment. Whether Im riding my smuggler trail bike or riding my heavy alloy patrol enduro/park bike, the smiles these things give you and the...

12/19/2025 4:31pm Really enjoying these unaffiliated podcasts. And tbh listening to this one while going for a ride this morning. The conversation was making me was to listen more and was distracting me from riding bikes haha. Good job guys

12/19/2025 10:05am When I refer to "manpower" I am talking about our in-house capacity. We manufacture/assemble our posts in Taiwan in our own facilities with our own team of now 13 people. That means every single post is assembled by ourselves, not, as it is otherwise often the case, by a "partner"/factory/assembler who is contracted to do all the sourcing, manufacturing, assembly to get the product ready in the box to sell. We draw every single part, source the suppliers, have them made, get them to us and then put everything together in our own facilities with our own machines. No post...

12/18/2025 7:05pm I believe it's hard to put the blame on anyone specific. It's also not always fair to wonder, "what they were thinking". There are no hard feelings or criticism from our side towards anyone of our partners who might have forecasted too high, because it is our call to interprete these forecasts for ourselves. We have outstanding and strong relationships with all of our partners. Many of these relationships go way back. What I was trying to say with my post was that this was an extremely unreal situation everyone suddenly found themselves in. And it was naturally going to...

12/18/2025 7:02pm The bike industry as a whole could have sold more than they did in 2020 and most likely throughout the whole 2021. However, the supply chains simply were not able to cope with the demand. And I completely understand that, for some companies (those that essentially everyone needed parts from) it was impossible to give exact lead times. Their systerm could not scale for that demand and that's why you suddenly heard about lead times of 700-800 days. In reality it could have been 300 or 1000. Simply because no one could accurately scale it up just like that, because...

12/18/2025 7:00pm It's a very interesting and impressive interview. Thank you, Sam, for taking the time and going so much into detail and also Jeff, of course for trying and then making this happen! It was interesting to hear how YT experienced the turbulent times during covid. For us, I can say, that we already saw OE orders being postponed and cancelled already around Q2 2022. But the more important thing happened to me in April 2021. There was one particular OE customer who used to need around 1,500 post per year from us. End of 2019 (pre-Covid) we received a projected...

12/18/2025 6:58pm Wrapped up @jeff.brines podcast with Sam yesterday. I'm definitely not a business wonk, but I really appreciated the high-level business discussion that was still digestable for me, as an educator who runs a school. It also gave me a lot to think about even in my own practice of being the "CEO" of a school around making tough decisions, strategy, and revenues vs. outflow. Anyway, I feel like this sort of business insight into the bike world might have a somewhat limited audience... but I do think that it follow the 1,000 true fans model that the people who appreciate...

12/17/2025 4:27pm Sam Nichols touched on the point that it's risky to train your customers to never buy bikes at retail prices by frequently and predictably applying heavy discounts to move units. Then "new" YT turns around and effectively launches by putting out a limited release at barely break even price. Also interesting to hear that the more recent "race to the bottom" pricing from YT was less of an intended business model but simply more of an inventory dump maneuver to keep the lights on.

12/17/2025 4:26pm @jeff.brines the Sam Nichols podcast was absolutely awesome. Really great insight to not only the situation YT was in, but also how bike oems handle their business, as well as an anecdotal case study of how PE/VC actually happens. It's nice being able to digest that paradigm with a case study that is relevant to my interests... makes what is otherwise a pretty dry subject if you're not in the thick of it and makes it palatable. Thanks Jeff, great work!
