thresh Liked a reply to forum topic Tire inserts - do you run them?

I was an insert denier until this winter... I've destroyed a freshly built-up FR541 (which I put on a rear wheel to replace an EX511 that lasted maybe a year and never survived Northstar season) by hucking into a root on upper Jugs. That somehow didnt impact the sidewalls at all, but made a big enough well on the bead shelves so the system wouldnt hold air. It did not help to put tape pieces or rubber repair thingies to smooth it out too. Given the NA prices for DT Swiss, I figured I can eat the cushcore price. It...

Arc'teryx has entered the mtb space, because you know, there just aren't enough premium brands trying to sell $350 riding pants and $500 jackets. lol (For real, though, even though all of my Arc stuff is the best fitting stuff I have, 0/10 would not pay those prices for it. The only riding pants I'm willing to spend full price on is NF. 10/10 worth it)

Just got this from Knolly: A Message from Noel Buckley I'm going to keep this simple because you deserve that. The last few years have been the hardest this industry has ever seen, and Knolly has not been immune. But we have been fighting through it: restructuring costs, tightening operations, and doing the difficult work of right-sizing the business to match a new reality. We were making progress. That progress was cut short. Our bank, RBC, has made the decision to call in our account. This comes at a time when RBC is posting record annual profits, $20.4 billion last...

We will see. Unlike most people in this thread, I'm not as much of a believer that $100/bbl oil = more (specialty bike) sales. It may drive some mobility e bike sales, but I don't think its the needle mover everyone else thinks it is, especially when it comes to mountain biking. Also, as a reminder, oil was over $100/bbl for most of the early 2010s and I don't remember it being a huge driver to the bicycle industry's success. Energy costs eat into everything and generally leaves people feeling poorer. Its inflationary. So if anything I'm more a believer...

Cool! As others pointed out I'm building a similar app that also leverages GPS, Garmin devices etc and has lightweight activity tracking, too. Being Rali (app name) is a big lift, I love the race community and I know people ant to race now I built "OpenRace" as an open sourced race app that is similar in concept to what you built as a quick/easy crono based alternative. You can find a hosted version on Vercel here: https://openrace.vercel.app/ Those interested, the git repo is here" https://github.com/JeffBrines/OpenRace If anyone is interested in hosting the product, the one thing you do need...

There’s a massive difference between a small builder and a micro brand sourcing rebranded bikes from overseas. I’ve seen loads of the latter, wouldn’t waste my time. Of the small builders, most will stand behind their product but that doesn’t always mean a fast turnaround.

They drive out and weld it back together for you between laps. In all seriousness, I would imagine most purchasers go into it with the understanding that they are not guaranteed much in the way of warranty. The flip side is that small manufacturers might be more willing to fix it for you even if they don't have a chain...

Clear and Black anodize are extremely consistent and have a low scrap rate. It's only when you get into the red/blue/green/etc colors that matching becomes more challenging. We use automated polishing systems here at our facility, so it's very rare to have a QC problem related to that part of the operation. Darren

From what I’ve heard the SJ15 has been the opposite of a success as far as sales have gone….

I'm not sure I'd put the SJ15 as a success, perhaps it's my own dislike of the special shock stuff, but the wireless only on the carbons and then the alloys being quite a bit later put a bit of a downer on it, felt like a step backwards vs the previous generation. Chisel is great tho, I love my chisel evo, there does seem to be a hole in the lineup between a chisel and a stumpy on the alloy front.

I don’t think the SJ15 is a dud but it’s not a very sexy bike. Compare it to a Druid or something with a little more ‘tude and you’ll see where detractors might be coming from. If you’ve work in a shop you’ll get where this Levo R came from: there are tons of customers who want to ride a sick ebike even if they don’t have the skills. It’s like people who drive jeeps…

Jackson's brakes? (I'm not actually convinced the rest of the groupset needs an update, but I think there is fairly collective agreement that the updated Shimano brakes are not competitive with the best on the market right now)
