1/19/2025 6:35pm I'm just pointing-out the absurdity of the current rule-system--that the most dominant World Cup Downhiller ever wouldn't be permitted to enter under current rules. It would probably be more to-the-point to say Rachel wants to race in the second or third race, after the 5 alternates have already been determined (assuming Atherton isn't one of them). Is it just expected that the existing rules won't apply to such a rider? What about Gwin? 21 World Cup wins should make you eligible, don't you think? What if Amaurry had been up for contract this year, and hadn't raced last year? He'd...

1/17/2025 6:55am I hope this is on topic - But since it was news from this week. Just got the OneUp pedals delivered. Some pics and size comparison to Saints for anyone that has been contemplating them. They are very similar in size, I would say maybe 5% smaller overall platform. Tried to "dry" clip them in to my Fox Union shoes, but the pins are quite high, and the clip mechanism seems quite hard (From my experience shimano is the same, and it takes a bit for them to "break in) - So I could not clip them in by hand...

1/17/2025 6:54am @Spomer, can we please deviate the toe-clip topic to another thread, and make it in a slightly bigger default font?

1/17/2025 6:53am We are old. Zefal toe clips with bear trap pedals FTW! I switched to SPD in '93 [?] but will always have the scars.

1/17/2025 6:52am Am I the only one here who has ever ridden toe clips? I feel old. I am old I guess. I used to ride my toe clip pedals in soccer cleats with rubber spikes for better foot retention. Nice and tight in the chunder on my fully rigid bike but soft enough to be able to rip them out when in need.

1/16/2025 8:11pm The simple answer has already been pointed out…. Cash money (sponsorship from SRAM and/or Shimano being potentially linked to OEM deals)

1/16/2025 7:52pm I think there's a bit of both. Gates wants to break into the market so they are doing so via the prize purse. But just because the big teams aren't following suit doesn't mean itsa gimick and all about the money. Some of these larger teams are funded and supported by SRAM and Shimano. They might not be able to rock the boat that hard to try something that is a bit unproven. Switching would require new frames and disrupting long time partnerships. Gearbox's have pros and cons, but until they are put to the test, no one knows which...

1/13/2025 2:43pm OneUp SPD compatible pedal incoming, as light as XTR Trail with (almost) the platform of Saint and DH Mallet. Claim to fame, thinnest SPD on the market, and they've tightened up the binding so you don't get that metal on metal vague feeling (before reaching the float). There was an exclusive Downtime podcast on it a couple of days ago which now seems to have been pulled down, they may have jumped the gun.

1/13/2025 2:42pm With respect Phil has been struggling to be a regular top 30 finisher the last few years. And like Kade and Kaos his skills may be more valuable producing content rather than racing World cups. And that sucks cos those boys really lit up the vital raw , sleeper co. and Ben cathro videos over the world cup weekends. Sad to see the gifted steezy and technical riders are being forced out of the racing side of the sport now . I wanna see some rowdy shit being done on some wild lines not just a load of Frenchies deathgripping...

1/8/2025 11:14am File this under: Things I do not hate! I know its not holistically for altruistic reasons SRAM is coming out with standards like UDH and UBH, but these standards make things so much easier to deal with from the consumer side. Bend a UDH hanger? Go into any bike shop. Want to swap between 180 and 200 rotors? Buy a different UBH. The idea of not having to deal with a frame's terrible brake post alignment, or even having to do the "post adaptor math" is a net win in my book. Kudos for SRAM for doing this! Looking forward...

1/6/2025 8:10pm But the formats that WB have introduced have made it a lot harder . In the red bull days you could qualify 60th and finish 20th in the finals and if you did that in 4 or 5 races you'd be top 20 in the rankings without ever being on the live broadcast. I'm not saying that the red bull days were better but I think it's probably going to be a lot harder to be a pro downhill rider in the 30 to 60 rankings than previously.

1/3/2025 6:49am Lots of nice comments about Rockys; I certainly appreciate it. I have faith that something will transpire over the next few months and Rocky will emerge on the other side a better company. The brand is very strong and there are many passionate but also smart people that want to see it carry on. In the meantime I'll be skiing and biking for the remainder of the winter.
