Jill, Vero, Martha, Bex, Casey, Phil, Brendog, Blenki, Kade, Wyn, the whole Pivot crew (I've left out many others but you get the idea) who highlight the joy and fun we get from bikes are who I like to watch. Watching racing is fun but I'm not ever gonna race a World Cup. F*cking around on bikes with my friends, crashing, laughing like loons and having a blast is what makes me interested in their sponsors. Phil on Vee tires? I will absolutely try those even though I'll never be 10% as skilled as Phil. /apologies for the derail

I’m gonna need to see some riding clips to make sure Teamrobot has still got the clout on MTB. Last I heard he bought a Volvo- and got a job as an insurance actuary or something (aka- he “fell off”)

Great. We're taking Pinkbike cast-offs over here now. What's next, you gonna hire Ferrentino now that Bike has shuttered (quietly praying for this)?

I agree with the Robot on pretty much all accounts. You'll burn through $2k in accessories before you can blink. I also support going with Simon at Fluidride - I had a 2-hour coaching lesson from him 8 years ago and to this day I use the techniques gained from that. Other things to consider - Transition is somewhat local, if you have an issue - they're less than 90 miles away and you can get immediate support. Not to take away from Yeti, I'm sure they have fine customer service, but having the company local to you is also...

Welcome to Washington! I think you've got the right idea when it comes to amount of travel, but I would highly encourage you to not spend that much money if you're riding the green and blue lines at Duthie. I'm a former pro downhill racer and I would never spend that much on a bike, because I think the benefits are so small. The difference between SLX and XTR is almost nothing. Ditto for GX and XX1. Even Deore and NX bikes are totally rideable. You'll end up replacing a few things due to personal preference (taller/shorter bars, different tires...

Can we just talk about this for a moment? What can the big guys argue against gearbox after seeing this? Like sign me up https://www.vitalmtb.com/community/Shredmaster-2020,53572/setup,42992 but it limits suspension design.. Nevermind but its heavy... wait 39lbs?..... Nevermind It will ruin the aesthetic... er.... Nevermind We just don't want to commit to it? Bingo

Thx! It's the 6-Gear Version with 295% range. Pretty much the same Range as a SRAM DH 7-Gear Setup. The reason for the Gearbox was first of all less unsprung weight on the rear wheel (about 450g), which makes the suspension more active and supple / plush. Which is the whole point of a DH-Bike suspension i'd say. The weight also sits perfectly low in the frame and makes the bike feel super planted and stable (low center of gravity). No derailleur to rip off, super low maintainance, always perfect chainline, no cassette to clog with mud, etc. is...

In Washington we're ridiculously spoiled. Most of Washington: Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance Eight local chapters include Cascade to Sound (Seattle Area, obviosuly the biggest and most active), Kittatas (Ellensburg), West Sound (Kitsap County), Southwest (Vancouver area), Methow Valley (Way out in the boonies), and Eastside (Spokane). We're set to exceed 8000 members this year, which is bonkers. https://www.evergreenmtb.org/ Bellingham: Whatcom Mountain Bike Coalition Super duper active and responsible for Galbraith, Chuckanut, and many many many more projects around the Bellingham area. In my (limited) experience, I haven't seen another public MTB trail advocacy group in America that's doing a better...

After a bit more thought and sliding into the DM's of a local robot part of it comes down to is properly built corners. To me cornering is the most fun part of riding a bike. Weather it be a flat corner, rut or a berm. Slapping a turn and coming out of it with more speed then going into it feels great. This is where it seems like most "flow" trails get it wrong. Again maybe its because they only have a digger for a day or the grounds too soft to really test but a corner should be...

I'd like to take an unpopular position for a moment to defend flow trails. Flow trails aren't inherently bad. In fact, I can think of a few flow trails I've ridden that are phenomenal. Whoops in Bend, Crank it Up in Whistler, and Silky Johnson at Sol Vista/Granby are all machine-built flow trails with no mandatory jumps, and all three of those trails can entertain an absolute beginner or a WC downhill pro. Seasoned pros have come to Whoops and broken wheels or ripped tires off. Flow trails don't have to suck. I think what we're really complaining about here...

Our sport has had a massive influx in the last couple of years. More riders, more money, more media attention and as a byproduct more trails. Overall I think this is a good thing. More MTB specific trails are great, especially single direction MTB trails. But there has also been a trend in the last few years to make the most bland, boring repetitive trails when it comes to building something new. Part of this seems to be legit trail building operations getting their hands on power tools. Where once you had to build your trail to work with the...

Looking forward to this when I head out to sling some dirt. Wentz taught me how to gate start, coached me to a D2 Collegiate National Championship, had the sickest photo sequence from Durango sending it off the drop and has been an inspiration not only as a rider, but as an entrepreneurial trail builder and bike tester. Love ya Steve!
