As someone who is sometimes lucky enough to get to go and shoot racing, there are few things I look forward to more than seeing Blenki appear in the viewfinder. If anybody can make shit look good, it's Blenki!

They could build an uphill sandpit in the track. Everyone would have to race the same uphill sandpit. Strictly speaking, it would be fair. If it was short enough it probably wouldn't even change the outcome of the race. But do we want uphill sandpits in our races? Probably not. Is it reasonable to say uphill sandpits are dumb? I think so. I'm hearing a lot of ideas that amount to "the track is the track, and you shouldn't complain or question it." That seems like a limiting attitude to me.

Shoes definitely play a role for me. Longer pins feel better on shoes with deeper lugs (Impact). When I use a Freerider Pro (etc) on longer pins, it gets too squirmy for me. I prefer a shorter pin for those.

C'mon. You know me well enough to know I'm not advocating for trails and race tracks to be "roller coasters", and you know I prefer rough, technical tracks over "bike park" stuff. I totally agree with you about using your "bars, brakes, pedals, and skills", but that's not what I'm talking about in this instance. I'm simply not a fan of trail segments with a staccato feel to them. Like I typed above, a corner like that here and there is great, and I'm all for requiring the rider to find the best line through any section. Maybe you said...

The upper turns of that track are what make enduro racing so god awfully unappealing to me. I despise the notion of having to slam on the brakes for a corner on a flat track, only to spring back up to speed, for no good reason. I know the endureros out there will say, "that's mountain biking!", but it shouldn't be. Tracks like that just aren't any fun to me and I don't build trail that lacks consistent (dare I say it?) flow like that. A corner like that here and there? Sure, but not so many in a row...
