I get there are a lot complex issues here with the UCI. But it seems to me there is one easy solution to deal with key point here: If you qualify for a final at WC that means you’re a top 60 rider and to Eddie’s point, have the pace, you should be granted the points or given the status to gain entry to race in a WC (guaranteed a spot for Qualis) for the next 12 months. This seems like an easy solution to ensure you’re getting the best talent and gives people a much better justification to commit to the series.

Getting the points to qualify for the World Cup is a whole other issue that needs to be addressed. The fact that there’s no “league” governance with a minor league so to speak is a major problem and a complex one. But for the guys that do make the show and show they have pace, you need to make it attractive for them to stay to keep the talent level high top to bottom.

Interesting piece. Given the problem for brands of trying to solve the range of rider size, ability level, and terrain, why don't they offer "base setup" and then have an appendix for advanced setup in the manual?

I know you really need to go out and bracket test to see what you like but as a guy with a young kid now I don't have hours to spend adjusting and testing suspension. Helping me get to a faster baseline would be extremely helpful. The brands do a ton of testing as you mention and have sorted a lot of this out. I don't think it would be hard to have settings for advanced riders (because most people diving this deep are in that category) and have Race and Playful ride styles and then chunky and smoother terrain. I know sending a shock back to fox to adjust the base tune is major PIA but if I am dropping 4-7K on a bike in the spring is it really that big of a problem... shit the brand could offer a free adjustment with the suspension company as part of the purchase price...

I have some friends who chuck volume spacers in there when more compression may be the answer with the smoother trails in our region.

I wonder if the same thing will happen to XC race bikes. IMO the race categories (DH and XC) are getting so refined that they aren't the most fun for the non-racing rider. That said, the tech bits and racing is great right now. Even if you're an XC rider, ... more »

That seems odd considering they've had guys like Marshy and Doug on the team for a long time...

Added reply in a thread Should the UCI do more double headers? (in non-pandemic years) 10/19/2020 6:55 AM

I think there would be venues that would be able to pull off two track options, where at least 60% (more than half) of the track is different for the second race. The UCI would need to throw a carrot out there for the venue but with enough notice (1+ ... more »

Sorry to double post here. But to add, I think the rule needs to be more clear. One thing I love about DH racing and watching it is there isn't this BS. Fastest Guy or Gal wins and there's no debate like with Rampage that is very frustrating.

To me this is clear cut DQ. Spomer, I second or two before your screen grab you can see the top of the pool bend under the rear wheel and come out on the right side of his bike (i.e. rear tire was completely outside the pole). He also totally blows up ... more »

Agree with this. Feel like Martin or any other of the team managers you know could help make your point. It is utterly laughable that the UCI, as part of selling the rights, doesn't require the event to be live...

Considering over half the poll is married and the average/median age is late 30s, I would argue that household income is more important because most the respondents are going to be heavily impacted by "household" budget requirements.

On manual tuning front, it'd be cool if shocks/forks at a QR code on them that you can scan with your phone and takes you to the manual and tuning... Super easy and guarantees you get to the correct manual/guide for your suspension.
