5/29/2025 1:01am i just want to make one last comment re: deleting pics, community etc then i'll be quiet. over the last few years, i've become very aware of how much of a privilege it is to be a part of a community that is supported by some of the best brands in our game. but the key word here is community...YOU all are the community. without you and your sleuthing, your knowledge, your stoke for the sport and its equipment, or your informed opinions, vital wouldn't be very special. with that said, if all vital does is bow down to brands...

29 Added a reply to Silent Bikes - What tricks do you have to keep your bike quiet through the season?
5/28/2025 8:07am teflon tape on the bb threads glued in the headset cups with Loctite 641 retaining compound Bikeyoke Willy keeps dirt from getting into the seatpost and the main pivot Hate a noisy bike. Ochain and STFU did wonders as well, now all I hear is tires on dirt and the oil flowing through my suspension.

5/27/2025 11:09am thanks for the quick turnaround
Any idea if these upgrades can be done with a damper service? I assume the compression tune and negative spacer would be easy.

5/27/2025 4:59am What does reworked internals mean? And optimized for use with volume spacers? I thought with the 2 chamber system you don't need spacers?

5/24/2025 5:35am I have the Hope union tc coming from Saints and XTs and I feel like they don’t have the icy feeling that you describe. Still a pronounced click when entering and a bit rotational play with the different cleats, but better „haptics“ compared to SPD if that makes sense. Also they’re bombproof. They won’t ever spin as freely under a...

5/22/2025 5:52am I'm usually fine on the technical knowledge of my bicycle, but how do I know if my fork bushings have too much play? I have an Öhlins RXF38 that has been mostly phenomenal so far but the lowers do have quite a bit of play in relation to the stanchions when the fork is unweighted. Local shop says its fine...

5/20/2025 2:25pm Have the oak levers on maven silvers. Can confirm, lever feels less flexy which translates to a bit more power. Not super noticeable, but it’s there. Mounting them was a bit of a hassle but definitely an upgrade from stock levers imo

5/15/2025 10:47pm Isn’t the whole point of facing to get a completely level surface in a 90° angle to the the thread? Any time I filed something I couldn’t get it completely flat without rounding off any corners, and I doubt you could get it at the right angle by just eyeballing.

5/11/2025 9:42am FWIW I rode my SJ15 all last week around Finale/Pietra with my friend/local guide, Jordan Newth, who rides an enduro full-time, and we chatted a lot about what bike is best for the area. The trails are rough and long enough to warrant an enduro bike/bigger fork and shock some of the time. However, they generally aren't that steep, and you rarely have long sections where you can really open it up. There are plenty of tight, slow descents that make having a smaller/lighter bike appealing. Not to mention how much climbing is available if you're willing to pedaling vs...

5/7/2025 5:00am Fuck those cranks. There's SUCH a good structural reason why holes in cranks are a bad idea, with the exception of the sram cranks. The reason that all those 5dev cranks break despite not being very lightweight is 100 level shit, and I hate that the mtb industry is stupid enough to entertain it. A 2 dimensional truss structure is fucking terrible in torsion, and most of the crank arm sees a LOT of torsion. Then you've got all the stress concentrations with all the internal corners, and that multiplies your max stresses by a lot again. The reason why...

5/6/2025 10:23pm I'm not sure I'd agree that that is a hard and fast rule like you're saying. Either way 435 is very short no matter where in the travel. FW for example is 460 on a L, and the v10's ranges from 450-460.
