I think they didn’t let the jrs race it this year.  They also brought back the OG Canadian open because this trail is gnarly.

U19 expert which would be the equivalent of UCI juniors are racing but all the past categories like sport and vet aren’t

No seeding. Here’s the start list.

I don't see him, either. I also don't see Bailey Goldstone, and she's raced it the past 2 years.

No sign of Kailey Skelton, the new US DH National Champ, either. She had a DNF in the OG CDN OPN last week. I hope she's okay.

Bailey took a huge digger recently. I think she's playin it safe and sitting things out.

I thought I saw a Jackson post/story about why he's sitting out, but not sure. I think the obvious narrative is staying safe for WCs to come.

This is just from memory of whatever I saw on instagram before so... Boulder of salt.

Here's a good watch for you race fans, following Yeti's trials and tribulations as they get back into DH racing:

Kailey is sitting out the events but seems okay. She was having a good time taking photos of the Slalom the other day, and I suspect she'll be cheering on the racers today.

Jackson is on the start list that the media received last night. He was supposed to drop last, after Tyler. Maybe he pulled out with the conditions to avoid risking injury?

N1NO Schurter Announces Retirement

The Greatest Of All Time is about to say goodbye! The 2025 UCI World Cup in Lenzerheide, Switzerland will be Nino Schurter's last dance in cross-country racing.

Givisiez, Switzerland. The cross-country racing career of the world’s most successful mountain bike racer is coming to an end. After 23 years of professional cross-country racing, Nino Schurter has today announced his retirement and that his final UCI World Cup race will be on 21st September in Lenzerheide, Switzerland.

Lenzerheide has held huge significance for Nino Schurter, not only as his home mountain and training ground, but also the location of his most iconic wins. In 2018, Nino Schurter took his 8th World Champion Title at home in Lenzerheide in one of his most emotional victories, and the track was also where he won his record-breaking 34th World Cup, once again delighting the home crowds.

The UCI World Cup in Lenzerheide will follow only one week after the 2025 World Championships in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, where Nino Schurter will race with the Switzerland jersey for the final time – the same jersey he has worn to 5 Olympic Games and while winning three Olympic medals. This unique calendar timing for the 2025 season – with a Swiss double of racing – paves the way for a special end to a career that’s been like no other.

Nino Schurter’s professional career began 23 years ago when he first joined the SCOTT-SRAM MTB Racing Team (then called Swisspower) under the helm of Thomas Frischknecht. Over the next two decades, the young Swiss prodigy went on to re-shape the sport of cross-country racing with historic rivalries, influential partnerships with SCOTT, SRAM and Rockshox, and a fan base that grew the sport of cross-country around the world. Across more than twenty years of professional racing, Nino Schurter has represented Switzerland 5-times at the Olympics, winning bronze, silver and gold medals at Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio 2016 respectively. He has worn rainbow stripes for a combined decade, with his 10 World Championship titles. And, most recently in 2024, Nino Schurter re-wrote the history books (again!) with a record-smashing 36 World Cup victories across his career.

At 39 years old, the rumors and speculation around Nino’s retirement have been floating around for a long time. However Nino Schurter’s love for cross-country racing and persistently high performances have seen him race at the highest level for more than two decades. Now, rumors become reality, and the UCI World Cup in Lenzerheide will be the last time Nino lines up between the XCO tapes, marking the end of more than 20 years of World Cup racing for the greatest athlete the sport of mountain biking has ever seen.

Following his retirement from cross-country racing, Nino Schurter will remain part of the SCOTT-SRAM MTB Racing Team and as an ambassador for SCOTT, SRAM and Rockshox. He plans to focus on event and charity projects, and turn more attention to long distance and gravel races, including at the 2026 Absa Cape Epic. One thing is for sure, Nino Schurter will stay a part of mountain biking for a long time to come.

Nino Schurter's Palmares
Nino Schurter is no doubt the GOAT of Mountain Bike Racing. Here are some stats:

10 x World Champion titles

9 x World Cup Overall Champion titles

Gold, Silver and Bronze medal at Olympic Games

36 x World Cup victories

3 x Cape Epic Champion

Since 2003, Nino has ridden for the same SCOTT-SRAM MTB Racing Team (formerly named Swisspower).

Nino Schurter: "I'm saying goodbye to cross-country World Cup racing, but I will remain in the exciting world of cycling with all the great people involved."

"I'm incredibly thankful for everything I achieved in my life as a professional mountain bike racer. Now it's time to take all this experience into a new chapter of my life. I'm sure what comes from here is going to be just as exciting.
Yes, I'm saying goodbye to cross-country World Cup racing but I will remain in the exciting world of cycling with all the great people involved," says the retiring star.

Team Director Thomas Frischknecht

"Fair to say it's the dream of everyone involved in the sport to be working with an athlete as outstanding as Nino. I had the pleasure of working with him ever since he joined my team 23 years ago. His palmares speaks for itself. Though Nino is far more than the rider who has won the most. His personality, his professionalism and his infinite passion for the sport impress me tremendously.

The legacy of Nino Schurter will remain forever and he will always be a shining example for the next generations to come."

It's been raining non-stop since Thursday night. The track is going to be nutty in these conditions.

I suspect anyone heading back to Europe for the rest of the World Cup season is going to pass on this race.

Vital RAW in not rainy, perfect summer conditions for a weekend of #USDH from the Downhill Rockies series in Telluride.

Nino is in the same category as Greg Minnaar for me -- taking victories across what otherwise might be considered entirely separate generations or eras of racing. Gonna be hard for anyone to ever match that kind of longevity. A well-earned retirement.

Guys like Nino and Greg are athletes on par with LeBron. To adapt to the sport as younger people come up and change it is exceptional.

Brutal. Is slope even a possibility tomorrow? I'm assuming there's no way to run DH (and slope at the same time?). Sad timeline...

If they only have the resources to broadcast one tomorrow: can we hold a vote for redbull?

Thumbs up for 1199

Thumbs down for joyride

Crazy thick fog rolling in and out all day, breaks in the cloud with sun patches then pissing rain next minute. Unfortunate

official statement from crankworx about 1199 cancellation

https://www.crankworx.com/news/official-statement-rockshox-canadian-open-downhill/

Due to unfavourable weather conditions preventing helicopter access for athlete safety, the RockShox Canadian Open Downhill Group A finals on the legendary 1199 track have been cancelled.

A helicopter is a critical safety requirement for this event to ensure athlete extraction if needed. After initially moving Group A finals from Friday, August 15, to Saturday, August 16, the difficult decision was made to cancel the race.

Group B finals were held earlier this week, and full results are available here: www.crankworx.com/results/

As we wrap up the 20th edition of Crankworx Whistler, the final day of the festival brings two marquee events:

Red Bull Joyride

Outdoor Research Ultimate Pump Track Challenge presented by RockShox

Fans can catch these events on site or watch live on Red Bull TV.

We thank all athletes, fans, and partners for their understanding and support as we continue to prioritise safety while celebrating the best of mountain biking.

hmmm progressive? I think its absolutely there. It's kinda hardline light. HardLite. i dont think it quite dethrones VDS in tech/challenge, but isnt it a touch longer than VDS and with the bigger almost hardline like features?

plus if you have features that are so big you let riders know it will be closed in the rain and B lines will be mandatory, that's def a solid feature lol. can't just cancel juniors category i suppose...

Nope, they cancelled the whole thing… how dare they ! In the name of safety put the riders potentially out of pocket! just so there was no catastrophic incident that resulted in a worse than optimal outcome due to simple and reasonable safety expectation!

My friends daughter was 3rd to go in the lineup. They allowed practice to happen. She got 3 runs in and was ready to go.

They allowed practice but not the race…? 🤔

If the speed suit is such a game changer, why was Jackson dunking on everyone pre-speedsuit in juniors? Why are Tahnee and Nina not dunking on their fields with such a large advantage? (Are they just THAT bad?)

Why was Gracey destroying them in Dharco gear? Why is Vali still leading the overall in that like in-house YT gear? Why isn't Specialized making one for Loic?

Does it help? Yes. Is it the reason Jackson is winning? ... No. If anything I'd like to see if anyone donning the speed suit has performed notably better so far? Ideally while eliminating the obvious generational talent that looks like he could win on a stock v10 in a t shirt...

you could also ask why Asa (in a speedsuit) has not won a junior race, and 4 others have

Yes allowed to practice. If they do timed runs they are required to be able to safely land a helicopter.

Ya, if anything maybe that tight in the crotch fit is what's making him so inconsistent 🤔 put him in shorts and a baggy jersey untucked! Call it an intimidation tactic because those French brothers are destroying and now it's really not just the one kid.

We need a hardcore stats guys to compare career results pre- and post- speedsuit. I think Jackson is the only one skewing that statistic. Otherwise its had no change, at best. (Negative effect at worst lol)

From a safety standpoint, that obviously doesn't make sense.

It sounds like the only reason a helicopter needs to be involved is so the race doesn’t get held up when someone stacks. Screw all the people practicing, unless they’re on the clock…
