Hello Vital MTB Visitor,
We’re conducting a survey and would appreciate your input. Your answers will help Vital and the MTB industry better understand what riders like you want. Survey results will be used to recognize top brands. Make your voice heard!
Five lucky people will be selected at random to win a Vital MTB t-shirt.
Thanks in advance,
The Vital MTB Crew
Mille's results weren't great last year, especially compared to the crop of juniors moving up to elite this year. Going to be nail biting for lots of the women now with only 10 spots in finals.
Interested to hear about this rock band composed of a young poutine, younger coffee bean and the 3 youngest salmons
good call, just saw the news that trek factory (XC at least) will be on pirelli tires.
Italian invasion has begun! Trek Factory Racing on Pirelli
so sharpied-out Maxxis tire logos for the whole season then?
What happened to Bontrager? They are pretty good XC race tires which could be made even better with some attention to detail. Why not just commission some Bontrager DH tires. They are all copying each other anyways.
Bontrager has (or had) the G5’s that they were using for a long time. I hope they keep making them. Really good, somewhat inexpensive DH tires. IMO.
I find this interesting as Pirelli had an XC team on Trek frames just two seasons ago. Now it's the other way around. Does the Pirelli XC team still exist? They were on Wilier last year, right?

This Pirelli / Trek racing thing seems to not make a whole lot of sense since Trek has Bontrager tires... Hoever, my theory as to how this has come about:
-Think this move is more about money than quality of tires (what isn't). Pirelli may be throwing big money at the team (hundreds of thousands of dollars) to be their tire supplier. This will allow them to afford all the big rider contracts they're carrying right now as the bike recession looms.
-Trek has (for a while now) been a distributor (at least in US) for Pirelli tires. Maybe they will attempt to market this more and sell more Pirelli tires through their channels, thereby getting a cut.
-Trek's DH riders needed better rubber and Sharpie'ing Maxxis was not a good look anyhow.
-The XC team probably just came along with the DH team as a package.
-Trek ultimately is a OEM tire manufacturer. Their race teams need things like more supple casings for XC and better rubber compounds for DH/Enduro. Maybe Pirelli will help with this while Trek can focus on making really solid tires for OEM bikes and to sell in Trek stores. The Bontrager tires are good/great, but with Specialized's T9 rubber they are taking the back seat between those two companies in terms of performance DH/Enduro/Trail market. The Bontrager XC tires are still really good patterns but again they could lack in terms of providing higher TPI supple casings and low tread heigh options for their XC racers. Pirelli could help here as well.
-Trek sells Pirelli tires and they're probably looking at this as most people just know the "Trek rider" is winning the race and only the nerds care about the tires they're on. So the brand Trek winning is far more important that individual components, etc. Also, they probably got a very healthy pay day from Pirelli for the move which made it make more sense for them.
Youve put more effort into that than I have done in my whole career.
Tristan leimere slightly hinting new team/bike. Can see in the photo running maxxis rubber and sram rotor and caliper…
canyon cllctv?
Young Aussie EWS pinner Ryan Gilchrist off his own program to something new. Trains and travels with the Meier-Smith boys and the guy is bullshit quick!

hey all, thought id create another group for posting about up coming riders that have serious talent and skill that are lesser known at the moment but will definitely be ones to look out for. Thought it would be quite an interesting topic
This is great sleuthing!
Here's the official press release from Pirelli:

PDF Version
• The collaboration between the two companies has grown and now also includes the supply of MTB tyres to the TREK Factory Racing XC, Enduro and Downhill teams
• This partnership builds on the now multi-year collaboration with the TREK-Segafredo World Tour road cycling team
• The teams will also contribute to the Pirelli technicians' development of a new line of Scorpion tyres dedicated to MTBs; the line will be produced at Pirelli's Bollate plant, near its Milan headquarters
I am guessing they switched because Pirelli produces a far more interesting calendar each year (IYKYK)

When you check out the full entry list, pretty much the whole World Cup roster is entered for it, will be well worth a watch. Also worth noting Jamie Edmonson is still entered under Rockshox Trek, so would take the "team" entered with a pinch of salt.
It will also confirm Millie Johnset to Canyon Collective Factory.
nope, she‘s the one i took the trek factory/pirelli news from, wouldn‘t make sense to promote this on IG when she‘s leaving IMO.
What a gold mine of information 🙂
Vero Widmann to Nukeproof
Interesting thing for Tuhoto Ariki Pene and David Trummer : MS Mondraker ?
Looks like Oli Zwar on Canyon too
Reece Wilson also without a listed team… but has an insta post about the whole pirreli tyres change.
I may be way off, but didn't PB racing use Mondraker last year at once of the early races to keep their roster under wraps?
I saw him riding in Lousã with a prototype and Matt on a non-prototype bike
Some other changes for Trek by the looks of things as Reece Wilson running Burgtec cockpit..
Didn't someone on the team snap a pair of Title bars in practice last year? Vergier maybe?
Angel seems to be on an Unno on his latest IG story. Difficult to see clearly but seattube seems to match.
