I appreciate Vital not posting video (or names) of the "good" trails in SLO. As you now know there are some sick ones that need to stay on a need to know basis. And this trail is not in San Luis Obispo, but half hour away in Montana de Oro State Park. And it's fully legit.

Is your issue with the DPA Pike the lack of ability to use volume reducers? I love mine and felt very little difference to the Solo Air's I've ridden although I'm not sure how many bottomless tokens they were running. I do run my fork on the stiffer side so bottoming isn't really a problem..I rarely use the last 15mm of travel and I'm riding some chunky terrain.

Use the climb switch on my CCDBA and lower the pike and use the middle setting on the rtc3.. Id rather have a bike that needs the climb switch on the way up to be able to have it fully open on the descents...I feel like the bikes Ive ridden that climb good with the shock open suffer on the...

Hell no...21oz waterbottle and I'm good for anything under 30miles..I ride by myself 90% of the time and on the rare occurrence I flat Ill just walk/ride the rim down..all the trails I ride are all downhill after you drop in so it's not really a problem...I despise backpacks...I just got the dakine fanny pack with a holster for a...

Dang, that song took me right back to high school. He's 16, right? Was he even alive when that song was released; circa 1996? Haha! ....wish I could ride a bike like that at 16.

Seriously..think it was '95? It's in the best surf video ever made IMO..Focus which I believe was from 95...my buddies and I used to amp to the segment with that song before we'd shred...that video has the best sound track off all time...my buddies and I would go to lagwagon, strung out and nofx concerts back when we were 14 or 15..they would play at this little hole in the wall.. I've been listing to those same few bands/songs since then...music pretty much stopped being good in the mid '90s

Because I have 30mm internal width rims on my bike right now and they don't work with with a 2.3 HR2 as a front tire...It's all good until you lean your bike over....the casing ends up being wider than the tread...maybe if you live somewhere with super good traction it's not as noticable but on hardpack or loose over hard it doesn't work...I use a 2.4 HR2 up front and it works well but In the rear the 2.3 lets go as soon as you lean past the sideknobs and onto the casing...its useable in the rear but as a...

Elsinore- Yea the 2.4 hr2 works great for me...Most of the specialized pros are running their i30mm rim and I believe Jill and Bryn Atkinson are on i30 rims as well...They have been using hr2s and shortys instead of minions I believe...I really do think that i30 is as wide as anyone should go...the ibis and derby rims seem excessive to me....I think there is a point of diminishing returns...

Lucky for me the HR2 is my favorite tire so it works out. Preferably I'd like 25 rear 27front insides but I can't afford enve's and aluminum rims don't last for me and I really like having a 400g rim. Ive had good luck with the carbon ones I'm on. I've replaced a few rears but not as many as I would have if they were aluminum.

I had similar impressions of the Minion 2.3 up front when mounted to the Ibis wheels, even in hero dirt conditions. More in the "Initial Impressions" section of this feature: http://www.vitalmtb.com/photos/features/First-Look-All-New-2015-Ibis-Mo… We'll consider a tire roundup like you've mentioned. When in doubt go for a bigger tire, or just rock standard width rims.

Funny comment from the Ibis guy on bike rumor.. Ibis’ own Scot Nicol recommends anything with a rounded profile using the example of a Maxxis Minion working well, but the High Roller not so much. He also mentioned Specialized tires since they are building in more tread wrap as well as the Bontrager X4, Schwalbe Hans Dampf 2.25, Maxxis Ardent 2.25, and WTB Vigilante 2.3 and Trailboss 2.25. I seriously don't understand how someone could ride that 2.3 minion and recommend it...

Just to clarify you thought the Minion DHF 2.3 was no good on the Ibis 35mm rim up front? Ive been wondering about this same thing as it would seem that the Minion's side knobs would no longer be on the side and more on the top of the tire with those huge rims and would give you that washing out effect as you ran out of tread the more you lean the bike over. I do have a riding buddy who has the butcher control (single ply) on a 30mm specialized rim and he loves it, he is a...
