tybez Added a reply to All Things MMA & UFC

I’m a big MMA fan. So this thread really caught my attention. Anthony “Rumble” Johnson passing was such a shock. Really sad to see someone so talented gone so young. And that UFC 281 fight was wild! Pereira taking the Middleweight title from Adesanya was definitely unexpected, but made for an incredible matchup.

If you’re based in Geelong for 3 weeks, I’d definitely bring a bike. MTB is probably the better pick. The You Yangs are super close and have tons of great trails. But there’s also solid gravel riding around the coast if you want something more chill. If you can only bring one, I’d lean MTB for sure. And yeah, for...

I’ve had the same struggle tbh. Finding clear lenses that don’t feel distorted is harder than it should be. I’d honestly stick with interchangeable lens glasses. They usually come with a proper, clear lens that’s way better than safety glasses. Tifosi is decent for the price, even if the Moab didn’t work for you. Shimano ones are alright build-wise, but...
That’s an awesome plan. Morzine/Les Gets is perfect for mixing park laps with XC and big alpine views, and then you can pivot to Geneva/Annecy for the culture side. Late July through August is prime season. If you line it up with the Haute-Savoie UCI-DH round, that would be epic. Just book early since race week fills up fast. From...

tybez Added a reply to Feedback Wanted: Strava-Like Racing App

I don’t see people leaving Strava, but a race-focused app with strong privacy (no heatmaps unless we allow it) could definitely find a niche. Big things for us would be super simple race setup, team/season scoring, and full offline mode with sync later since a lot of our trails have no signal. Also worth keeping it lightweight. Some of my...

Found some great recommendations here, thanks! Totally with you. Those older DH films just hit different and still get me fired up to ride. I’ve been digging around streaming platforms hoping something new would pop up, and I even ended up calling the paramount plus phone number once when I was checking if they had anything similar buried in their...
What did you end up using? I’ve just started planning a trip to Europe too, and I’m trying to figure out the best way to do bike rentals in the scenic spots. I spent some time looking at Holiday Systems International Reviews to see how their rentals and local partners stack up, and it actually helped me narrow down a...

What did you end up choosing? I do the same for trails and XC rides, mainly for quick access to maps and tracking apps. I’ve been using a rugged mount that clamps really solid to the bars and hasn’t budged even on bumpy sections, and I’d definitely recommend pairing it with a tough phone like the UleFone models (they’re super...

tybez Added a reply to AI in MTB Marketing

I get where you’re coming from. A lot of AI-written marketing feels pretty obvious and kind of soulless. I’ve definitely started trusting direct digital reviews and real rider feedback way more than polished brand posts, especially when everything starts sounding the same. If companies are going to use AI, at least be transparent and keep some human voice in there.

tybez Added a reply to What do you all use to time your downhill runs?

I had the same problem, so I switched to using a GPS tracking app on my phone (I use TrailSense — it auto-detects runs and shows each lap time as soon as you finish). No need to tap anything mid-ride. I’m on verizon wireless and usually get solid signal on the trails, so the tracking stays accurate. Super simple setup...
What did you end up buying? I went with the Flexair Pro Fire Alpha Pants after comparing both. They felt lighter and better for climbing while still warm enough for cold lift rides. The Defend Fire pants are great for super cold days, but a bit heavy and warm if you’re pedaling a lot. The Flexairs ended up on my...

I’ve found that mixing in some strength work really helps with MTB endurance and control. I usually focus on leg and core exercises like squats, lunges, and planks, plus some upper-body work for better handling on descents. Lately, I’ve also been using Yoga Go a couple of times a week. It’s been awesome for flexibility and balance, which makes a...

MTB has always felt like a community-driven space, so when marketing starts sounding like it was written by a robot, it kinda kills the vibe. That said, I’ve seen some brands using AI more for backend stuff (like SEO or translations) rather than the core message, which seems fair. I’ve used Hotmart for selling digital content before, and they push...
How was your trip? Finale Ligure sounds like such a solid choice. I’ve been to smaller Italian coastal towns before, and honestly just wandering, eating, and people-watching in cafes can fill entire days. Plus, the train access from Nice makes it pretty convenient. I usually call travelocity customer service to book flights and hotels, or rent a car. They come...
I love supporting local bike shops! Bike Attack in Santa Monica is a great choice. Ericson really knows his stuff! It’s awesome to hear about businesses that value customer service and expertise. I've also had a good experience with yelp customer service when looking for reviews and recommendations for local shops. It really helps in making informed choices.

Yeah, GPS watches have changed the game for cyclists. I used to ride with just a Casio too, but now I track every ride and explore new trails with ease. Picked up my Garmin from FactoryOutletStore at a decent price, worth every cent. Simpler times were good, but not better!

for those of us who have been around for a while, there was a time we had only our Casio watch on us. But having a GPS device made things better. We are now able to track our progress, spot new tracks, help the community...you name it. There is no point in being afraid of technology and change. Simpler times were not better times...

Just checked in with local sources. The Turkey Burn ride wasn’t canceled in 2024 despite the fire, though some routes were rerouted around damaged areas. Good news: it is in the works for this year. I’ve been tracking updates via dsl extreme, solid local insight. Hopefully the full A‑group challenge returns.
