Based on literally everything I know about suspension, a shock that doesn't sag (and thus has no negative travel) sounds awful. I'm really, really curious about your thoughts after test riding this shock. Please don't pull punches this time though *cough* *cough* Marin *cough* *cough*

Brines, my thought exactly. Roughly 1/3 of all US enduro stages are on flat, bullshit terrain (flow trails) that require significant rider input. This bike might pedal uphill in a seated position like a shorter travel bike, not reacting to weight shift and chain forces, but that's a completely different task than being being firm and compliant under heavy pumping and rider inputs on flat, bullshit terrain. It seems like the 20% sag thing is a compromise (that gives up descending performance) to make the bike handle rider inputs on flatter terrain better without traditional damping.

Also compare this to other rich guy lifestyle sports, like golf or skiing, and it isn't so bad. It sucks, but it's pretty comparable on a year to year basis. Especially compared to riding or driving anything with a motor. If I ever hear someone say the common refrain of "$10,000 for a [totally tits/dialed in/top of the line complete carbon build with carbon wheels and fancy everything] bike? I could get a 450 for that much!", I'll die.

This article was good but not great, because without a parallel test of wheels without the FTD we don't really know if it made a difference. Ideally you would have run into all the same curbs and rocks with and w/o FTD, and the broken wheels and flat tires from the stock wheelset would confirm that FTD did anything. This is a lot like hearing friends say "I crashed wearing my helmet/neck brace/elbow guards/spine protector and it saved my life." Well, maybe it did. But maybe it didn't. We have no way of knowing. I've run into a lot of...
