i‘d love to support a similar mtb oriented publisher too. i‘m not that much into road cycling, but they have lots of interesting long form articles and their tool series is just great nerdery

Apologies if this is too far off topic, but Escape Collective just announced they're now cash-flow neutral (they've been running a deficit since they launched). Pretty impressive when you consider how much high-quality content they put out and and doubly so that it's funded entirely by member subscriptions.

Analog riders are the new kooky single speeders. If you think motors make riding too easy then please don’t do the math for how much mechanical advantage gears give you. There isn’t a lot of juice to squeeze from frames since we’re mainly hitting human rights issues on how good a frame can be while still being affordable. We’re still probably not paying the true price for bike when you factor in environmental and human effects of the manufacturing process. That’s where I see the biggest need for innovation. It’s amazing to me though that you unironically list electronic shifting...

The fundamental challenge of bikes is that they are a complex, relatively low cost LUXURY toy. They are low cost in the luxury toy world. Because they are relatively low cost compare to other luxury toys, we ignore the fact they are luxury items and have associated luxury toy costs. The maintenance costs are nowhere near as expensive as comparative luxury toys. We can’t compare a 10k bike to a Toyota Camry, its comparison is a McLaren. Or at least a high end Audi. And every luxury car owner will tell you upfront cost of the car isn’t the main...

Hello! I admit I have seen the ”Shimano Reports Bike Maintenance a Hidden Barrier to Participation” title on the home page and I got curious. I didn't read the entire thing, nor did I read all the comments here, as I don't have time right now (but I will make some time to read), so excuse me, but I feel the urge to say something. From my understanding, Shimano is whining that in Europe people are cycling less, because bike maintenance is hindering them. Did I understand right? If yes, than I find Shimano to be at least a bit...

It's just nice to see them finally making a slow creep towards a more modern f/r ratio, though a 460+mm stay option in large and xl sizes would have been welcome. The 450mm is a step in the right direction for the size large at least, xl is still a bit whack.

don‘t get me wrong sam hill is a legend, but what does he bring to a bike company these days? no content on youtube or any other social platform. should he get a ride/contract/money because he‘s sam hill? i also don‘t get the feeling that he‘s into product development either.
