I think DH sales are almost totally unrelated to the success of DH racing. Does F1 rely on consumers buying F1 cars? Does NASCAR rely on consumers buying NASCAR spec cars? What about trophy trucks, MotoGP, etc? Brands like Mercedes and Toyota don't have race teams to sell race cars. Specialized, Fox Head, Five Ten, Red Bull, etc don't sponsor DH racing under the impression their main demographic is DH bike owners. DH racing is dependent on viewership.

Oh boy! A good ole' sports debate!!! I love these, because clearly we're going to prove something once-and-for-all!!! First of all, Gene is right. Gene has also been around this shit than most of you have been alive. (coughs loudly) A little respect for the dude, please (someone post the pict). He knows what he's talking about. Second, anyone putting any other American DH racer in the same sentence of "best ever" has completely lost their ability to do any kind of math. While Gwin is not the best ever DH racer (top 10 though), he is the best the...

Usac also totally miffed the olympics with woodruff just this season. Seems like a bunch of amateurs. I still don’t get the gwin haters. Y’all need to find something better to do with your time then hate on the guy who brought America back competitive on the world stage and is just a generally nice dude with good values. He belongs at world champs, he’s one of a few who can podium and the only one with a win at the world stage. Unsure if he’ll be on it this time but I have little doubts there are more podiums...

Hey guys, bummer to see all the hate from a few of you but I guess that’s passionate fans in sporting. Here’s the reality. From my understanding and recent reading of the rules, There is not a rule that says you must petition. A petition just assures that you are considered. The rules basically say that USA cycling will pick, at their discretion, everyone who is not an automatic selection (national champ or top 3 in previous world champs). After that the rules just say that they will basically pick whoever is in the top 50 of the current WC...

It was last spring, in the beginning of this pandemic that has turned our lives upside down, when we were having heated debates in the Technical Rumours topic regarding suspension, forks, dual crowns, right-side-ups, upside-downs, axle diameters, etc., when I mentioned much of it could be checked using finite element simulation. It was a great project to get into FEA and to have a cool result, but, as is usual for a master procrastinator without a deadline, it took a while to get it done. But get it done I did! So, in this post I will present the results...

Dive into the geometry numbers and find out what you like. Once you know what you like, you can search for bikes with these numbers in mind and have a pretty good idea of how the new bike going to fit and feel sight unseen. Buying bikes sight unseen is definitely not the ideal option, but this should help you...

Disagree entirely with the premise: Top guys in enduro are either guys who have won a DH WC race: Hill, Maes, Rude; or guys who grew up full enduro: Nicolai, Dailly, Tordo. Maybe there are some guys in the EWS top 20 that started riding pro late, and maybe they can compensate the relative lack of experience with fitness. But then didn't Gwin start riding DH in his 20s also, and started winning within a handful of years?

EXACTLY - Look at Broc Tickle's case on the moto side. He tested positive at the San Diego supercross over a year ago ans STILL has not received a hearing date.

Yeah it's an adjustment for sure. My last bike was at 339mm (2016 SJ 27.5 - 335mm with the standard 150mm fork. I ran the bike at 160mm) and I had no issues with it at all, even with 175mm cranks. The Evo 29 is 328mm in low mode, 334 in high mode, and now 338mm with adding 10mm to the fork and in high mode (HA went to 63.5ish with the added travel). When I bought the bike I figured a bb that was a few mm lower wouldn't be a huge deal, but I quickly learned that wasn't...

Totally unrelated, but I just realized how positive of an environment the vital comments section usually is. I wonder why that is..sure would make social medias more fun if it were more often like this.

Few comments here... 1) I ran it in both modes, and honestly if you are good enough to tell 1/2 degree of HTA then good on ya. I can't really tell...or if I can my body immediately adapts to it. That said, I ran mostly in the high position just because I needed every mm of crank clearance. 2) Weight was never a concern with me as far as enduro racing is concerned. At this point, I'm fine with anything between 32-38 pounds (this stuff on my bike). Less weight comes out of a corner better and obviously easier to...

Great review! I own a S3 Evo 29 and I'm curious how a more weight/pedal friendly spec'd build would change your mind on it being an "Enduro Race Weapon"? Also, did you run the Evo in High or Low mode? Although the stock build is excellent for the price, it leaves a lot of opportunity to cut weight and tweak to your liking IMO. It took me a bit of time to mesh with the bike out of the box. Let me add the disclaimer that my last bike was a 28lbs 2016 S-Works SJ 27.5. So with the geo...

I own both of these bikes right now plus a HTLT. My builds are a little different since I have the SWorks SJ and have put XO1 on the Evo along with SC carbon wheels so take my comments with a grain of salt that it is not an exact comparison. My experience is that the Evo SLAYS steep rocky sections a "mach chicken" with the stock suspension. I ride a lot of these types of trails and the Evo is by far my favorite bike I have ever ridden for those types of trails. I have set PR's on...

First off great review. I have both of the bikes tested plus an HTLT as well and would echo your experiences in climbing. The Evo is very underrated in this area and it absolutely crushes the climbs. I find that the steep seat tube means that I don't have to fight to keep the front wheel on the ground which takes a surprising amount of energy and core strength. I constantly laugh at people that say slack bikes can't climb well. It is all about the SA, not the HA. Regarding descending, my experience does not mirror that of Brines...
