Randy_Geniec Added a comment about press release E-Bikes - The Trailbuilder's Tool

I'm a local builder. Allows you to get to the worksite and not be smoked. It is alot of work already. As you get further along or up the trail you have to ride more in to get to the starting point. I wish I had my ebike on the last trail that took 9 months to build. I would have finished it in 7 months.

Interesting that the Sight VLT was more fun than the Levo. I didn't like the "off idle" click/hesitation of the Shimano motor but I heard they fixed this with a firmware update. The Levo motor is unbelievably good and reliable if you spin it and ride it like an MTB as I do...2,000 miles in and perfect. The Levo is faster and more stable but it kind of takes the fun out. I may try 27.5" wheels on the Levo...or at least run it as a mullet.

And how many times have you almost been taken out by a regular bike? It is not the machine it is the rider and all too common.

This was shot in the Boise area on Trail 4 and a network out towards Idaho City.

You guys should do a test of the direct to consumer brands, YT, Commencal, Canyon, Propain and Fezzari. Also like to see how the new Yamaha YDX Moro Pro matches up against the bike manufactures.

In my group everyone has an eBike now and for several of them it is their only bike. Once you get on one you really don't want to ride anything else most of the time.

That was some rowdy testing. Interested to see some more bikes put through the ringer now. Mullet decoy, cube 160 , niner 180, commencal sx maybe?

Hrmm... I was one of the riders who used to keep my levers way closer to vertical than horizontal. But I never really suffered much from arm pump. But then I'm kind of a freak at 6'7" with size 13 hands. I could stay low with a flat back and still reach my levers just fine.

How about you man up and stop being ignorant, stereotypical, and a bad example of what an MTBer should be.

Looking into your comments you've got a hate on for e-bikes. Can you show me on the doll where the bad bad e-bike touched you?

Feels like a rant that was a long time coming. I am not going for popularity on Vital here, any pro ebike comments gets knocked pretty quickly online. I believe pedal assist ebikes are simply not a problem. Sure they are not as fun, most days I agree with that, and that’s why mine hasn’t been ridden even once in months. Occasionally like when I’m sick, injured, or just super lazy I would say ebikes are way more fun, at least more fun than not riding. They aren’t real MTBs? They sure aren’t motorcycles, at least not class 1 pedal...

You presuppose that the only fitness activity on the planet is MTB.. and that the only fitness activity ALL Ebikers do is Ebike..and, that it is impossible to create fitness or "earn your turns" thru Ebiking-NewsFlash!-You can make most activities difficult. I'm just as tired Ebiking as I've been on a mechanical/traditional mtbike. I've been lucky (Aunt and Uncle both passed from cancer) enough to have been healthy and fit my entire life. I've done many different things to stay fit over the years-the gym, martial arts, parkour, climbing, etc...And YES, every year I get into good climbing shape until...

I've been mountain biking for quite awhile now (1988). I've owned many different bikes over the years, DH, Freeride, Enduro, trai, etc. I recently bought an Ebike and I will never go back to a mechanical/traditional mtb. I've found climbing to actually be creative and FUN now!-having the ability to pop off of everything on the way up is amazing. Other than occasionally enjoying a random, easy-ish climb when your mind wanders and blends with the meandering undulations of the climb, Climbing SUCKS! (for me at least) Ebikes have turned this SUCKS into FUN!. Additionally, I've found descending, jumping etc...

Your article was enlightening. I have been struggling to understand the antipathy towards e-bikes and I think you've highlighted it - culture. There would appear to be a feeling that e-bikes don't fit an idealized notion of mountain bike culture and might bring people to the trails who aren't like “us" - who might drive a Porsche and not know who Steve Peat is. While I'm not excited for the trails to be more crowded either, living in the US, I think I've had my fill of culture wars and political tribalism the last few years and would rather at...
