A lot of companies have been trying to absorb as much as possible regarding the tariffs to avoid pricing themselves out of the game... But that can only last so long..

“Against this challenging backdrop, our bike business ended fiscal 2025 slightly above 2024 in an industry experiencing turbulence and challenges across many of our OEM customers. We have the financial strength to lead with our brands and a discipline to protect our margin structure while the industry works through its cycle.” In a recap, Dennison stated, “We are not counting...

Fox Factory reported earnings this evening. I'll do a deep dive post later, but here are a few takeaways. Q4 Results - Came in about as expected (overall). 2026 Guidance - Lighter than expected, but there are talks of divesting in certain assets (like Marucci) SSG (the unit bike components live in) lagged about 5% in year over year sales. Management described bike as "slowly stabilizing" but explicitly acknowledged "disruptive market entrants" forcing legacy brands to "consolidate or cease operations". Maybe they have caught onto this thread? Lol. Stock is flat in post market trading, down 4% prior to the...

$6,666 x 15% = $1,000. i.e. at the low range what was $6,666 became $7,666. $1,538 x (15% + 50%) = $1,000. i.e. at the high range what was $1,538 became $2,538. Many, perhaps most businesses operate by borrowing money, converting it into products, selling those products at a gross profit, using that to pay interest, salaries, leases and other overheads, and then hopefully leaving a net profit which might be reinvested (or be the reward of capitalism, but the reward hasn't existed in the bike industry recently, it's been negative). Borrowing 15% more requires paying 15% more interest, which...

From the Financial Times article: "The US private equity firm said on Wednesday it had agreed to hand its remaining equity stake to the Dutch group’s top-ranking lenders. KKR and the backers of its funds will lose all of the €1.1bn equity cheque they wrote to acquire Accell in 2022, as well as hundreds of millions more that they pumped...

Apologies if this is too far off topic, but Escape Collective just announced they're now cash-flow neutral (they've been running a deficit since they launched). Pretty impressive when you consider how much high-quality content they put out and and doubly so that it's funded entirely by member subscriptions.

How DIY are you willing to go? 200-gallon galvanized stock tank (they usually have drain plugs) ~$200, flexible or oval ceiling curtain track ~$150, heavy duty shower curtain or vinyl sheet and install your own grommets ~$100. Assuming you already have water and a drain you can tie in to.

If you've not heard enough on the topic of YT, Sam Nicols (Former CEO) was recently on The Business of Cycling podcast. It was a little different feel and far less detailed than @jeff.brines Vital interview. Speaking of, I don't think he mentioned it here, or I missed it somewhere in the 140 pages, but Jeff was on the pod...

Yeah communication is key. Many shops are smaller crews but having a competent service writer would be huge for most shops. I always found that taking the time to measure chain wear/rotor thickness/pad thickness in front of customers did a few things. 1. It shows you are measuring and not guessing which helps build trust 2. It gives you the time to explain why these things wear and how they affect performance, which again helps build trust. If a customer sees you do a a check over I always found they are more likely to trust your assessments in the...

RE: Trek, the owned retail is a massive problem. I know that Trek owned stores in the EU numbered 32 in 2021, 62 in 2022, was planned for 112 by end of '23, 162 by end of '24, and 212 by end of '25. I don't know how many they actually acquired or opened, or how many remain open. I...

I don't disagree, but marketing expenses are still expected to show a positive return over time. With the way the XC & DH are hosted there, I think it will always be a difficult proposition. It takes a solid 30-40 mins to drive between the venues. There is talk of bidding on another Placid Olympics, and I'm sure that will...

Is the cost to host a World Cup considered Bikeconomics? Sure, why not? The Lake Placid events cost $860k in 2025 and brought in $293k in tickets, lift passes, and parking. Hotels and AirBnBs filled up, and money was spent on food, fuel, etc. I don't think the split venue and lack of bike park trails help the cause for...

Sorry, I was able to access it from my Google News feed. AI summary: KKR-backed Accell Group is facing the prospect of a second debt restructuring just over a year after its last one, as continued cash burn and weak demand in the European cycling market strain its finances. Despite cutting €600mn of debt in 2024, Accell’s lenders are bracing...

I've definitely seen ads from Ari for HSA-qualified purchasing. I imagine the bike companies are all using the same third-party service to determine qualification. That said, if you have an HSA and can afford not tap into it regularly, there is no better investment vehicle in the US. Tax-deductible contributions, tax-free investment growth, tax-free withdrawals for qualified expenses. I don't...

Maybe not a brand familiar to this audience, but Gravaa (the hub-based inflation system) has filed for bankruptcy. They had some success with Visma and Marianne Vos winning Gravel Worlds; however, $4k was a big pill to swallow for most riders, and it looks like time ran out before scaling.
