Making up the numbers with a few engineers and based off a few test bikes is not hard. Engineering a frame to work correctly for a company like Merida wouldn't be hard. Then, just to put some gasoline onto a fire, distributing the DH bikes as 'Atherton by Merida' or something like that would give tons of street cred for the bikes and make the marketing damn easy (as it doesn't say Merida on the frame, it says Atherton), but you have the channels for distribution all set up.

Although last year wasn't the best (far from it and I am sure she will be the first one to admit that) she did well as a privateer before joining the 'factory' team. I agree, but you can't take anything away from Miranda for the Worlds win. Lot's of world cups are won due to mechanicals and other crazy stuff. I think Specialized were right to take a chance with her. That win could have launched her into a successful 2018 season, but it wasn't to be.

Can't say I am that surprised that Miranda is gone. She did some big things domestically but never did much on the WC, she had 1 top 10 this year and ended 14th overall out of a field of 30. And lets be honest, she won world champs on luck when every top rider crashed out and the UCI screwed up Myriam Nicole's timing.
