250.000K for funding a full season seems pretty reasonable to me. From food, to flight tickets, hotels, stuff and UCI team registering. To be honest, I think that is quite reasonable. And if it is for 2 people it might not be enough. If you calculaze out the taxes at an average of 18% you can only spend 210000. And you have to pay for health insurance, salary and taxes on income. And you should not forget that a professional needs to make more money as a normal working person because there is no regular carreer pat and you normaly...

Re Brosnan: I don't know his situation, but here is my hypothesis. He's newly married, has a hobby farm with horses and cool shit and it's Summer Holidays here in Aus (Everyone stops working for a month lol) It's 35 degrees every day, the suns out, the beach is ready and the beers are cold! Yes, if you have been following this saga for a while (and listening to all his interviews the past couple years) you know that he was on the fence and WOULD HAVE retired this year if he won world champs or even had a banger of a season. As the results were not great early in the season, he probably had hoped for an awesome second half to walk away from the sport with... but that didn't happen either. My assumption is that he had a verbal agreement or something that he could 'keep going' as long as he wanted...
