I think you (and this podcast) kind of arrived at one of the issues with these changes: They haven't exactly made clear what their goals/vision is for the future of DH or EDR. Like.. are you trying to make it safer? Are you trying to make it more viewer friendly? Are you trying to enforce more consistency? Do you want to transform it into a better TV package. I mean... I assume they're trying to do all those things, but they need to be explicit about their goals. Then they can explain, "The reason we're going to 3 race runs...

Even some of the BMX scene gets a little put off by Swampfest. Can you imagine the pearl clutching that would take place if there was something like this in MTB. That being said: the younger generation who have grown up on 50:01 (and got into BMX culture as a result) are starting to pivot to more of this style...

2/8/2023 8:29am One of our friends who runs a pretty large XC team said all surrounding lodging is already booked, and they're looking at 40 minutes away from the venue at least. And they started trying to book rooms immediately after the announcement.

2/8/2023 6:34am I think that's the reason Trestle makes sense, because they can maintain regular operations while Gravity Nationals is happening. Angelfire would be a lot tougher. It was slammed just for the Team Trail Party race they had there with a huge lift line. Trails didn't feel that crowded, but the single lift is tough.

2/7/2023 12:10pm I actually don't mind Winter Park (selfishly). Good vacation spot for the week for the whole family while the kid races. Lots of good hikes around, and I get to ride Trestle. Also, Trestle is large enough that the park isn't that affected by the event, which might not be the case for somewhere like Angelfire, which has only one...

2/7/2023 8:12am Cross Country dates and venue announced: "USA Cycling is excited to announce that the 2023 USA Cycling Cross-Country Mountain Bike National Championship will take place July 5-9 at Bear Creek Mountain Resort in Macungie, Pennsylvania." Probably means Killington for gravity. I imagine they'll try to keep it all on the East Coast.

2/3/2023 10:04am Yeah, Angelfire and Killington were definitely the buzz at last year's Nats. Angel Fire might actually be possible if they're only hosting the gravity side of things. Infrastructure there is freaking minimal, though. It would be awesome for us, though, as it's only a 10 hour drive, and we usually go 1-2 times a year anyway.

2/2/2023 9:34am USWE and Camelbak both make lightweight hydration packs that will fit back protection. Not sure if that is what he’s referring to or not. My son has started carrying a USWE hydration pack on the “big” enduros and really likes it.

1/30/2023 4:22pm Also, if you're on the West Coast, then race the Bootleg Canyon winter series. Get to see where he stacks up against Cole Suetos and Asa Vermette and some others. Also opportunities with NW Cup and Rocky Mountain DH Series. There are enough "top racers" that he'll be able to compare his track times against other up and coming juniors...

Lars from Transition Bikes here. Troydon (Crestline) lives about 3 minutes away from our headquarters. He's a super nice guy and joins a lot of group rides from Transition HQ. Stoked to see this, and stoked for Blenki to be partnered with someone so genuine and into bikes! Troydon is a ripper and rides a LOT. Super rad to see what he's doing, it's a massive undertaking to launch a bike company these days in such a competitive market. Also stoked to see Blenki around here, I'm sure he's bound to pay some visits.

Bizutch is so old his old man stories are now 1/3 truth, 1/3 exaggeration, and 1/3 geriatric fever dream. The only thing missing from his stories about racing Mt. Snow NORBAs in the 90s is the whole class cheering in the end. Out here acting as if he was the only one who showed up at these events when the sport was at its biggest and busiest. I think kids today would refer to this as "cap". That said, he's right about downhillers crossing into moto. Bizutch is more likely to agree with another internet poster than for a mountain...
