2/21/2026 4:53pm Can't say I've any time on Mavens, period (Wisco Pride n all) but this highlights why I never buy 1st gen anything. There's things you learn in development, then there's things you learn in the field after release. What's acceptable to the folx on payroll (lever feel/input here) may not be acceptable to the wider market. A smaller MC piston...

2/21/2026 3:34pm Gonna echo my sentiment on that other post, but the Ripmo V3 should definitely see a solid demo ride on your localish trails. I took one on a test ride on a local system that has both old school bench cut in limestone with new school flow/jump/freeride lines and it was an eye opener. My ownership niggles were/are slight, but...

2/18/2026 7:31am Nabbed a new Ripmo V3 for a good price. It's definitely a welter weight with stock wheels but a lighter set of wheels and tires decidedly put a good bit of pep in its xc-ish step. I had intentions of getting the rocker and clevis to turn it down to a Ripley V5 but honestly haven't felt the need to...

2/11/2026 1:55pm I can speak to clothing as I run a tiny MTB apparel brand, Abit Gear. The short story is that for USA brands, tariffs are making it a royal PITA and covid saw a glut of inventory that isn't yet cleared. Sure, margins are good on paper, but you have a SKU problem with apparel do to size and color variants, you have to carry a lot of aged inventory, and fight discounting from competitors more than with hard goods. For technical apparel, China is, by far, the best quality. Most of the technical apparel factories are in China. They...

2/11/2026 1:51pm My co's Q4 and year end results came out. Tariffs gobbled up 67 million dollars from production. A pal who works in the med field had his co get taken for 175 mill due to tariffs. And I do mean taken. There is little wonder why many of our (former/soon to be former) international trading partners are looking at their...

2/5/2026 11:39am Overall a nice looking rig, but I really think Haro needs to stop competing with Trek for the biggest downtube font.

1/26/2026 11:12am My hot take on the extra volume added to the RS jobbers is they're doing this to mitigate some of the internal pressure difference between full top and full bottom out. I would not be surprised if at full bottom a Zeb or Boxxer is pulling air past the dust seals up top, causing contamination and of course increasing the...

1/24/2026 10:40am IPA? That IMO is the best use case scenario for an IPA!🤣

1/24/2026 10:39am I rinse my DOT kit w/ water, shake as much out as I can and then flush w/ IPA and let everything dry, for mineral oil I disassemble, let everything drain as much as possible, then flush w/ IPA. Been doing it that way for years...

1/23/2026 12:10pm I'm a huge fan of DOET by Dan Norman, and tell people about it all the time. I think I read that whole book in two days. I hurt my neck from nodding along in agreement as I was reading.

1/23/2026 12:09pm Yes to both. I rinse with water first, follow up with a couple squirts of iso, then let em dry while disassembled. If I'm feeling frisky I'll blast em with the compressor. I got to thinking about it as one of my original mineral oil kits had a seal swell up, which was a bummer since I paid for the...

1/23/2026 8:54am All the debate on compliance between 31.8 & 35 bars and I'm over here thinking a set of Doom 22.2 cromo bars might be in my future unless I can find someone else making a 55-60mm cromo rise bar.... Or buying a pipe bender and making my own.

1/22/2026 8:49am Just because that is what is on your bike, does not mean it's well designed, some of these fixings/torque values are probably not the appropriate choice. In your example.the thread size is completely different between the two fixings though, so I would expect a different torque. Ideally this would be with a different tool size also. There is a great book called The design of everyday things, by Don Norman that I would recommend reading on the subject.

1/22/2026 5:55am If you're not Ali/Amazon/ebay averse there are a number of options that fall under the 'good syringes, under $100' requirement. I've one from RiderAce for mineral oil brakes that's been perfectly fine in use that was maybe $30 or so when I got it. As with all bleed kits, the best thing you can do for em longevity wise is...

1/20/2026 1:51pm One of the first carbotecture brakes I got to work on had a nagging issue of losing the bleed after half an hour or so of use. Turned out one of the clamp posts loosened up, allowing air ingestion. And I just thought what a silly way to do a reservoir. Then the bleed screw's head popped off when I...
