The Sidekick uses a 45T ratchet ring that translates to an 8 degree "traditional" engagement. The degrees on the pusher are reflective of just the pusher movement itself. So, if we are talking the total possible degrees: the 12 degree Pusher setting would be 12-20 degrees, the 15 degree Pusher setting would be 15-23 degrees and the 18 degree pusher setting would be 18-26 degrees. It's important to remember that those are the numbers on paper, but in actual use there are constant suspension inputs, freewheeling that is resetting the pusher back to zero, and a few other intricacies. Hopefully, this isn't too spammy. Chassis: The inverted design opens up the ability to tune for/aft, torsional, and lateral stiffness independently. This is a huge advantage in ride performance. With conventional forks, the stanchion diameter drives the overall stiffness of the fork and has very few options for its shape, as does the crown. Weight: A common misconception is that an inverted fork is heavier. Inverted forks can be the same or lighter. The lubrication thing is a bigger deal than people realise - currently conventional forks have a tiny amount of oil and don't always perform as well as they could because that oil wants to sit at the bottom. Open bath forks are a little better but turning the bushings around makes for a much better system to reduce friction. I service about 1 Rockshox RS-1 fork a year and they have been very impressive in how reliable they are - a sid or revelation with the same number of k's would have been destroyed! back in the mid 00's when i was a mechanic, the margins on bikes themselves were small, and most of a shops income was service and accessories. sounds like that hasn't changed.

Hey everyone. I have a pretty important article for you folks to check out. Trek have patented a bike box, but it's not a normal box. They say this box is "to be directly delivered to end users". So, it's a direct-to-consumer box. The technical side of the box isn't the focus. Rather, it's the market implications. Trek left a comment explaining it's for China, so I also wrote an edit at the top to address that comment. Thanks for reading everyone. as a package engineer, i'm probably the only one here interested in the technical side of the it. one thing that I find interesting is that they filed a US patent for a box they don't plan on using here. thinking about it some more, on the surface that may seem odd, but it's probably more to keep their IP from being poached here, so others don't see the design in use in other markets then implement it in the US market.

I never said the direction my disappointed was directed, but thanks for telling me how I should feel ...jk...honestly when I picked up the bike and saw it I just shrugged it off because it is likely the shops fault but shit happens and these guys are all friends of mine so no way I'm I going to make them sweat over it after 17 years of great service. Brand new fancy-ass, counter-weighted work stands btw.

I have the 30.9 Revive and while I have not been able to ride it yet, the anodization on the stanchion did not survive the first encounter with my LBS's work stand. Disappointing.

One of my take aways is that ride height and balance are critical first steps. I assume ride height should be set as low as you can get away with without too many pedal strikes as this will corner better, I'm confused on balance though. What's a good balance between front and rear? Is it dependent on what you're riding ...down hill verses level terrain? How do you measure it --two bathroom scales technique? How do you adjust it? What if you have radically different balances when seated verses standing?
