Fahzure Added a reply to Buying an mtb frame in Germany

You could buy a real German bike that is made of metal so it won't crack when a rock flys off your front wheel into your downtube. You could meet the actual people pushing mountain bike design, technology and manufacturing for 25+ years. I speak of Nicolai. They have a test ride and factory pickup option.

Crazy heavy, crazy expensive - it's $1,000 more than an Intend and 600+g heavier. Would make sense on my e-bike but it doesn't have enough travel. It does look cool and I'm sure it works great. I feel like it would make more sense at 160-190mm travel instead of 140mm-170mm. Then it's sort of competing with dual crowns weight wise. Who wants a 140mm fork that weighs 50% more than your typical 140mm fork? I also don't understand why the USD fork builders don't link the stanchion guards together with an integrated fender like the old Dorado or Emerald -...

Because you can make this shock flat or progressive, it has more capacity to balance the tune of any frame to suit terrain and rider preference. The HBO also helps mitigate the bucky problems that arise with air spring end stroke progressivity. This level of adjustment is handy for precise tuning, lighter or heavier hitting riders and in demo fleets.

Extreme Racing Shox or EXT is an Italian suspension supplier with roots in motorsports, where the brand found success working with legendary racers like Sebastien Loeb who dominated the World Rally Championship for years aboard his Citroens. In 2014, EXT decided to try their hand at making products for mountain bikes as well, and brought over many of the technologies and the expertise they have been developing over the years. We have previously tested their excellent coil shocks with good results (links: Storia review and e-Storia review), so when the company introduced their first air shock we were keen to...

Fahzure Added a comment about feature Size Does Matter - Small vs XL with Pivot Cycles

9/14/2023 1:37pm
Surprised that your galootness does not notice the VERY different rider position relative to the rear axle, indicated by the saddle positions in the first picture. Sure, you can lengthen the CS, but that changes the whole equation. One of the most important things frame makers can do size-wise is make larger bikes (that are supposed to have climbing ability) with an appropriately steep (effective) seattube angles. This is especially important with frame designs that utilize an offset (from bottombracket) seattube. 80* will be good for most enduro bikes.

Fahzure Added a comment about bike check MYOTRAGUS Dorothea DH

Not sure what you mean by flippy-floppy, but this is a high, single pivot with a rocker pivoting on an eccentric, thus the shock rate curve is something other than flatish (probably progressive). On this bike, the axle path, anti-squat and anti-rise are all related to the single pivot location at the idler. Yeti Switch technology utilizes a sliding single pivot to vary anti-squat and the DWs I think you are talking about (Ibis Ripley) rely on 2 links (functionally a very short Horst Link) with the upper link on the Ripley riding on an eccentric to further tune its...

Looks like that is an eccentric pivot that the shock rocker link rides on. Should produce an "interesting" leverage curve.

Fahzure Added a reply to Seat angle : How steep is too steep ?

7/22/2022 5:41am
My XL G1 has a 530mm reach and, through custom seatstay mutators, an 81.5* seattube angle. I also have a couple of Privateers size P4 with 510mm reach. All of them have riser bars and/or spacers. The G1 has a 50mm rise bar. I have not found that the seattube angle and effective stack to be uncomfortable except on long...
