Eoin Added a reply to Bike age

You have to be a bit careful due to the progression of standards, but 2014 shouldn't be too bad. Things to avoid: 26 inch wheels (harder to find new tyres, eventually harder to find parts) Quick release axles Weird steerer tubes standards Proprietary parts (e.g. specialised/scott shocks) Things that will make it easier to replace parts: Boost wheels (unlikely in...

Agreed, the speed limit on them makes them boring on flat terrain (europe is limited to 25kph, i believe the US gets a bit more speed which would help). I think they shine the steeper it gets to be honest, they allows to get up stuff you would need to hike otherwise, and you dont feel the weight on steeper descents.

That's actually where I least like mine. They can be a bit of a pig on relatively flat stuff... Coming from moto, going down they're awesome. Stable and still flickable, it's just what you're used to riding... Obviously going up they're great. I never get the hate, isn't it about having fun? Well, they're literally, more riding, more ups, more down, more fun!

Eoin Added a reply to Is the 29 / 27.5 combo (97.5) bike here to stay?

3/22/2019 2:32pm
It seems unlikely that there is much of an advantage over going full 29er for racing. Personally I'm considering running the mismatched wheels on an enduro bike, but more for practical reasons: use a high end 29er wheel for longer rides and racing, but a lower end 27.5 wheel and DH tyre for shuttles and bike park. DH tyres and...
Hello, We can't blame UCI for that, because they asked us to provide them video from Loic BRUNI, and because of traveling and testing a lot currently, we were late and missed to do it. They consider DH as good as the other Cycling sports, don't be afraid...They did the job. We as a Team were not good. Thanks for supporting DH, and sorry for having been slow and not efficient. And YES, we are fuck..g happy to be part of this huge event. It will be a great show, and good moment to celebrate with all the riders...

I only eat food in bar form. When you concentrate food, you unleash its awesome power, I'm told. That's why I'm compressing five pounds of spaghetti into a handy mouth-sized bar.

Yes, I run my GoPro upside down 90% of the time and it figures it out. Just make sure to be at a standstill when you turn it on or the vibrations/motion might cause it to get confused and flip your footage, it checks which direction is up when you press record. My wife is always making fun of me...

Not sure how big a name Kilian is outside of France, but he has been putting out incredible videos for years now, his last 3 on his youtube channel are insane. Really good experimenting with camera mounts and drones.

Eoin Added a comment about press release $2,061,000 IS UP FOR GRABS IN 2019 - INTENSE PODIUM PAYBACK PROGRAM

2/27/2019 1:13am
Well, it is more like 40 races * 500 dollars for a podium sweep * 3 disciplines * 10 categories = 600k Still not sure where the 2M figure comes from, and for sure Intense are not expecting to pay out more than 30k out of this (winning half the categories of every single race in a discipline). Good marketing though.

Eoin Added a comment about feature Prize Purse Strings: Drawn Too Tight?

2/25/2019 4:52am
Not sure prize money is really that important when only 3 guys and girls will be taking anything worthwhile home in the best case scenario. I find this is a bit of a fallacy in the "esports" community, where video gaming tournaments have million $ prizes pools, but you have thousands of players hoping to compete, does that really help the sport/community? I think you should be looking at the athletes' wages, and more specifically how these drop off further down the pecking list. Because to be top 20, if not top 40, already requires you to devote most of...

Eoin Added a comment about feature Specialized Stumpjumper EVO vs. Stumpjumper - See How They Compare

2/22/2019 7:17am
Everything about the EVO looks great except for that BB height. I own a Jeffsy 29 which is a full 1cm higher, and depsite running 160mm forks, 2.6 tyres, low rear sag and 170mm cranks, it is still too low. I have smashed my cranks/rotor into rocks multiple times resulting in broken cranks, broken rotor and broken bars in 3 separate crashes, I had a huge crash just the other day, same problem as usual. Low BBs feel great, until the bike come to a stop while you continue at 30km/h... Definitely going back to something around 350mm.

Man this makes me anxious to get back out on my Kenevo this summer!!! Love that thing. So capable, so fun. I'm all for em. After 3 seasons on em' riding, guiding and racing I don't see the hypothetical concerns coming to fruition. If anything it's going to get the decision makers and influential peeps out on bikes when the fitness barrier and general lack of fun has been a deterrent to the sport. This being said I still ride and race my bio-ped whenever I can. Just a different experience going up, though I have to say I'm starting...

Eoin Added a reply to GoPro 7 with HyperSmooth - game changer for mtb?

2/19/2019 2:51am
I've gotten better at recording with the hero 7 black, and now would consider gimbals unnecessary. You need to have a very stable chest mount (or helmet mount but I dont like the angles). I have added padding to my chest mount and resown the straps to be extra tight, this way I get very smooth footage nearly everytime despite...
I have to admit to be part of the hypocrisy: I rolled my eyes at canyon's 66 headangle on a 2019 enduro race bike, especially considering the shapeshifter. But... The slackest enduro bike I have owned is my commencal meta with 66, my previous 2 bikes were 67, always with a 40mm stem. Hoping to get down to 65 for...

Right, but generally a rumour is something that is going around, not something I just made up like "Minnaar back on Honda, I 100% garantee it". In previous years there was an industry insider releasing information as comics for us to decode, a lot of which were accurate and came out way before any sightings or press releases. People reporting...
