There's no prototype rule in MTB. There's no resetting of the clock, the teams are free to run whatever they like

Running a true prototype can be risky, that's why most teams don't use them. Pivot was racing with prototype bikes while developing their new Phoenix frame and they definitely found this out the hard way.

7/27/2025 9:15pm Does just firing up a new prototype count as resetting the clock even though you my were running a Prototype before? I heard on the chairlift from a guy who apparently knows a guy that Norco is dropping their bike pretty soon because of the prototype rules. Makes me wonder why companies like canyon don’t even really race the prototype...

7/27/2025 3:14pm Yes but it’s an application process. Do they ever get denied? Why doesn’t every team do this then, why waste money on new molds or manufacturing when you can just keep running a prototype and sell the old bike.

I don't have it handy, but I saw somewhere some Bosch marketing graphs of power input/output relations for the various modes. Basically the modes without a "+" in the name have a linear relationship between input power and output power, whereas the "+" modes are what they call "dynamic", where support ramps up in a non-linear fashion. Among the linear modes, Turbo had access to full power, Eco had the lowest (like 15% or so), Tour was a bit higher (maybe 30%), and EMTB was middle-ish (like 60-65%). 7/16/2025 11:07am I retuned my eco to 60 nm and -2 and I’ve found it’s pretty much the same as my regular bike. Eco definitely gives a boost. What’s the point of the new emtb mode, I thought the current mode adapted up to turbo as well?
