DServy Added a reply to Nerding out on Brakes shall we? Not another tech deraliment
3/17/2025 5:49am Current Magura mt5/7 race pad cost for one set of pads on Jenson screenshotted below. Sure you can find them cheeper online elsewhere, but if the MSRP is $60 USD(!) a pad then that's what they go for at things like local bike shops and such. And yeah you could get them cheeper online, but that doesn't always work in...

3/16/2025 3:38pm Yeah, the amount of just random crap that tends to happen to Maguras makes me never want to touch them again with a 10ft pole. I’ve had multiple master cylinder failures. Brakes randomly going to bar halfway through the ride, and the never ending fight to stop them from rubbing made it so that they will not find a place...

3/11/2025 7:18pm Yeah, but an orbital sander is way easier in my opinion. Granted you might scuff up some of the pant/markings off the brake surface itself, but it was a price I was willing to pay. I've tried the sandpaper to rotor on the bike for years and never got it to work.

3/11/2025 11:10am Going to circle back here. Just got an orbital sander to breath new life into some of the "dead" rotors I've accumulated. Holy smokes did it work super well, a bit of 150 grit to 220 and they look brand new.

2/18/2025 2:01pm I really hate to derail this conversation but I must talk about those maven cups. I've always been a fan of the Shimano overnight cup bleed rubber band thing and I thought these cups would help me do the same things to my mavens. Needless to say, it did not work, in fact it made my mavens feel terrible. So...

2/9/2025 12:05pm Discussed here: https://www.vitalmtb.com/forums/The-Hub,2/2020-MTB-Tech-rumors-and-inno… Though it does seem like the EU ban is more "rumblings" from those in the industry than anything official. But we've talked about it on this thread before. I'm just repeating what's been said before on the EU front, however I do know there are a couple bike releases dependent on SRAM introducing their new brakes first.

2/9/2025 11:52am SRAM is releasing a bunch of mineral oil brakes. In part because DOT is terrible, and in part because of EU regulations around DOT fluid.

DServy Added a reply to Fox 38 air spring in Zeb chassis?
2/9/2025 6:04am I do find that the 38 air spring is pretty happy in a ton of configurations, all of them rideable. No tokens with higher pressures work super well, but so does more sag and adding in tokens. I've run anywhere between 118 PSI to 96 PSI and fond that I can make something work well in all those configurations. It's...

2/3/2025 12:44pm I was kinda shocked how many I saw in the Sea to Sky area last summer. It seemed like it was either Transitions or Forbiddens. I know they had some oddness with their supply chain last summer that kinda kneecapped their Dreadnought release, but I don't think they are nearly as dire of position as some other companies. Their race...
DServy Added a reply to Springrate Help for Commencal Supreme V5
1/31/2025 4:04pm Unfortunately you're just going to need to bite the bullet and by a few springs. Highly recommend getting a springdex that will allow you to adjust spring rates more easily. You can then move to a lighter "weight" spring (or not) if you're worried about overall weight for some unknown reason.

1/31/2025 9:16am If belts had more efficiency at over 150 watts, we'd almost certainly see them at the TdF. I certainly don't maintain over 150 watts when pedaling my bike. There is a member over at MTB.com, NurseBen, and like all of us he has some pretty specific beliefs about what will and won't work on his bikes. First, he wanted a gearbox with a belt, as he is a long-term fit mountain biker and wasn't concerned about a few watts. Mud kept packing up on his belt and the bike was throwing belts. I also think it kept squeaking. So, then...

1/24/2025 2:39pm I am a 200 lb man and if I ran 20 PSI in a DH casing I would die. I have no idea what Wolftooth is thinking with those numbers. https://axs.sram.com/guides/tire/pressure is a pretty decent one.

1/21/2025 10:31am A bit of shameless promotion, but hopefully it's relevant. I just put out a podcast episode where me and Alan Milway chat through all the 2025 team moves (confirmed and rumoured). Hopefully it's an interesting watch/listen. https://youtu.be/Mu0JAhGceB8 or https://www.downtimepodcast.com/team-moves-2025/ Clearly this forum gets a mention! Thanks to everyone here who keeps the rumour fire burning, I personally love it!
