It's really important that the rim tape is cut properly at the valve hole. The last bike I bought, I couldn't keep the rear from leaking around the valve stem. For a year I fought it until I guess enough sealant coagulated around the hole to seal it up. Fast forward to a few months ago. I bought new tires...

Our region, Pisgah is about to get a big taste of ugly. One of our most liked trails, Black Mountain, is getting a total re-route/rebuild. Can't remember exact numbers, but it's going from 1.9 miles long, to THREE. It is a gnarly blast of awesome on a spine that is far out enough in the woods that the eroded areas they talk about being a problem...they're a problem for incompetent riders. By the time the water from that spine goes anywhere, it's already ditched any silt along the way before it gets to any fishing areas. But Trout Unlimited is...

Look, I really want a eBike, BUT there are way too many irresponsible human out there that will be using every form of propulsion once you allow any form out in the woods, I see it every week here in Big Bear with the off roaders there’s always a couple that will ruin it for everyone. There’s truly no way to enforce what’s happening now the thought I have is a weight limit let’s say 40lbs that way there is truly nothing out there yet that’s powerful enough to damage our trails yet would give access to the forest this...

My nephew bought a Giant Stance about a year ago, and he loves it. Granted, he is coming off of a Hardrock, so any FS bike is an upgrade, He has hammered that thing all year, and the only thing we've done to it is tune it up. I think he paid about $1600 for the model he got (Stance...

I would avoid YT, prices are right but the customer service is non-existent. One of those lessons a lot of people have learnt the hard way.

DoctorJD Added a reply to How do you clean/lube your chain?

9/12/2020 10:52am
I don't clean mine that often, because I ride in pretty dry conditions for the most part. I will usually just hit every pin with a couple of drops of lube, then take a rag and run it over the chain to wick up the excess. When I do clean it, I'll do it with Simple Green.

Seems about right to me, maybe a little high. I guess it's better to err on the side of caution with these things. Run them on 28 and then slowly back off a bit until you find the sweet spot. I weigh about the same as you (175) and I ran 23psi in 2.25 Smallblock-8's on my old Niner. But...

Slik doesn't get to make an offer, no matter how reasonable they think it is. Fox gets to decide what their license is worth.

Dick move? Sure. but to play devil's advocate, the trademark is owned by Fox and Slik is making a profit off of it. If you're making Nike shirts in your basement and selling them online don't you think there'd be a lawyer knocking at your door at some point? As cool as their product is (and yes, it fills a...

DoctorJD Added a reply to 2020 Shimano SLX brakes, Olives

Glad I read this. I've got new SLX 4-pistons coming and I ordered new olives thinking they didn't come with the brakes. I might be able to ride this weekend after all!
Agree with both responses. I live in middle Georgia, and I basically ride the same kind of stuff that you do. Most of us opt for short-travel trail bikes like the Stumpy ST, Pivot-429, TallBoy, etc. I feel like those are the perfect bikes for the job (for the type of riding we do). And if you wanted to go...
