daneb Added a reply to MTB Tech Rumors and Innovation
11/1/2024 3:46pm I check my air pressure before every ride and I probably don’t often do long enough rides for this to make sense. This isn’t an improvement over my electric inflator for routine air filling and top up. But, it looks to be an affordable solution for people who want to know how their air pressure fluctuates throughout a ride…

Fox Liked a comment about bike check Jason McRoy's Specialized S-Works Team FSR DH Edition
9/13/2024 8:29pm I raced one of these in '96 in the NORBA series and many local CO races. There were not a lot of these Specialized bikes around, I don't think that many were made and sold. Steel front triangle, alum seat and chain stays. This bike was tough and held up to a ton of abuse. These were early days of DH racing. It was one of the few early full suspension bikes you could just buy on the bike shop floor and all I could afford at the time for $2k as a lightly used bike from University Bikes in...

2/6/2024 11:00pm Could’ve used that on my 2014 Formula brakes. They were the best, most consistent brakes I’ve had to this day. Something broke and the shop could find a part for it.

1/30/2024 7:47pm Uhm, except you have it bass-ackwards: Imperial nation SRAM uses 200mm and Metric nation Shimano uses 203mm (which I have never once seen labeled/marketed as "8-inch" rotors). Afraid you've got the wrong conspiracy: it's not nation states, it's capitalism: Shimano wants to lock consumers into their system and prevent cross-compatibility w/ SRAM et. al. wherever possible. Need more evidence? Spend a little time reading up on cable-pull ratios w/ shifters & derailleurs. Shimano started playing those games to stick it to Campy at the dawn of indexed shifting.

1/2/2024 7:03pm In: marketing. Trying to make the product look like it’s exactly tailored to every customer and no compromises. Out: basic numeracy in the target audience falling prey to the weird mental judo of people with some science and technology experience being especially uncritical of what they hear because they’re confident they can just tell real from not real heuristically. Why it may matter: imagine a normal distribution of riders and how much they shred (a bell curve). I suppose i live somewhere in the middle and maybe even a little below average, shocking as that is on a bike forum...

daneb Added a comment about press release Wolf Tooth Shares New ReMote 360 Dropper Lever
11/2/2023 7:42am I’d love to try this. I think it almost certainly rules out the traditional thumb push unless the joystick surface is grippy. But it might let you maintain a more natural grip on the bar while you lift your thumb up to drop/lower the post.

daneb Added a reply to Compliant mechanisms in suspension frame design?
10/26/2023 8:18am Seems like manufacturers are already dabbling in this arena. From flexy seat and chain stays to compliant carbon layups that are flexier in one direction than the other. I do wonder what the limits are though. Complaint mechanisms as my non-engineer brain understands them, are predominantly used as hinges in light or non-weight bearing systems.

8/16/2023 10:20pm You’re positive the rims and tires and tubeless compatible? That’s too much free play.
boozed Liked a reply to forum topic Do You Measure Fork Sag?
7/27/2023 9:31pm To be pedantic, in theory, damping shouldn't affect sag because an (ideal) damper is supposed to resist changes in velocity rather than position. In practice... It is recommended to measure sag with compression wide open. The problem I have with sag measurements is seal stiction. On the fork I just eyeball it and then see if it bottoms out when I do something stupid.

daneb Added a reply to Full suspension recos for 4 year old
1/16/2023 11:04pm Kids that age don’t really weigh enough to get the suspension moving much. I’d maybe look at bigger tires and lower pressure.
