Craig_Nelson Added a reply to Anyone rode the Bronson v5 and the nomad v6?

Thanks for the feedback everyone, if I did go Bronson I probably would be throwing on my zeb and I have a vivid air that I would most likley just run so it would be still a pretty beefy build, I have a 160 air spring for the zeb as well that I could drop in. I run a small...

Currently running a Nomad v6 which unfortunately has cracked but Santa Cruz are going to warranty it thankfully. They have given me the option of a Bronson v5 or another nomad. I am semi curious about trying a smaller travel bike, all my bikes from 2020 have been megatowers and nomads (been on the Santa Cruz warranty train for a...

I just unbolt the lever from the handlebars so I don't have to remove the caliper when I do a lower service. It's less faffing around to put the lever back into the same position that realigning a caliper.

Thanks for the link. Didn't try 'body'. Thought I covered it with armor and chest. Looks like more confirmation 100% is garbage, jackets are hit or miss, and chestys like the POC are a stand out favorite. Which considering Arcon is like the successor... I guess that's the move. I do wonder how people run it when they un-buckle it (or take it off) for climbs though. Just let it hang loose while still being on the back or something extra funky like... On the bars/frame/etc.

Craig_Nelson Started a new thread Body position and bike size

Hey all, just wanted to get some thoughts on body position related to bike size. At only 5ft 5” I’m on the short side but the last few years I had been riding medium Santa Cruz megatowers (v1 and v2) with a reach in the 550mm ish range. I got along good with those bikes but always felt like a...

Craig_Nelson Started a new thread Wet weather xc ish tyres

Just picked up a specialized chisel Fs comp, having never ridden anything but downhill and enduro I’m a bit lost with tyres, the tyres it came with are t5 compound spesh ground control and fast track tyres and they don’t cut it on the wet roots and rocks around home, I know it’s an xc type bike but even the...

I have had the high roller 3 in DD on the front of my nomad for about 3 months, it’s been great as we had a pretty damp summer here in Northern Ireland and as me and my brother had just built two new loamers it was the perfect tyre, we have some old trails that are down to bedrock...

My thoughts, having been a two bike quiver guy for a number of years now. 1) Either bike will work. What will dictate how well either the Tallboy or the 5010 climbs is going to come down to the build kit - specifically, tires and wheels. 2) Speaking of tires, there is no free lunch here. You either have tires you can smash or tires you need to be careful of line selection/how stupid you feel like being. 3) 27.5 or 29" rear wheel won't really matter either direction here (no pun intended). Either can be setup to climb well...

Personally I’d go full 29 at that travel range without question unless you are planning on mostly dirt jumping and jibbing.

I’ve always been a one bike guy but over the years my one bike has gotten progressively burlier and burlier to the point where I’m on a nomad v6 with coil and dh tyres, I love this thing and can still go out and climb big days on it but I tend to lap the gnarly trails and am skipping...

Could not get my hands on Santa Cruz wheels anywhere in stock, just ordered a dt240 hub and an ex511 rim, not my favorite rim but it will stick 6 months out the back and maybe by then I’ll be able to get Santa Cruz rims. Dt Swiss warranty on carbon rims didn’t appeal and I couldn’t find any solid...
Me lol, I’ve been building wheels for a couple of decades since I was a shop rat. When I say re tensioning I’m literally just tweaking tension, I use a tension metre so can see things I can’t feel lol. That plus the fact I like to make bad choices and I ride 4/5 times a week lol.
My old newmen rear hub after 6 years and many rims has finally worn itself out, rachet splines in the hub body are gone so it’s time for replacement wheels. Been looking at dt Swiss exc1501 wheels or race face era. I was all for Santa Cruz wheels but can’t get them in stock so there out and my local...

I’ve had mostly great warranty experiences……and I’ve had a lot of them. Thinking back through the last 5 years I have had the following replaced 1. Cracked Santa Cruz megatower, excellent service, replacement frame within days. 2. Cracked nukeproof mega frame, replaced in days (irrelevant now as there gone I suppose) 3. Broken Cube 150 frame, tooke them about a...
This is what I feel, I have always loved my all day missions and on a 35/36lb bike with dh tyres and a coil shock it’s perfectly fine but I imagine a bike that is even 20% more efficient would make a massive difference at the end of 8/10 hours on the bike.

It's absolutely all about how the short travel bike makes a lot of trails more FUN - the shorter travel and steeper HA combine to keep the wheelbase in check, IMO this is one of the key aspects that help these bikes carry so much more speed on anything but the steepest/gnarliest trails. Longer missions become so much more enjoyable as well, it might not feel like much when you pick the two bikes up side by side, but over the course of a long day of pedaling the reduced weight and general ease of moving around of the lighter...

If you're wanting to buy a new XC or downcountry bike, definitely do it. You'll have a blast. But first, do me a favor and borrow someone's XC or downcountry wheels with tires mounted and swap your rotors over so you can try your Nomad with faster rolling tires and your rear shock locked out. It'll blow your mind how much more fun those now-boring trails are. I just have the one long travel bike (SC Megatower, like you) and with two wheelsets I'm able to have fun anywhere. Obviously I'd rather have a dedicated short travel bike but I'm...
