Craig_Nelson Added a reply to Modern bike sizing

It’s strange with this bike I have just naturally been adding more and more spacers under the stem, I’m up to 25mm and a 20mm bar, my front end is higher than my brothers enduro and he’s on an s3 and about 5” 10”. I know spacers cut back reach but the bike definitely feels easier to ride downhill like...

I have a conundrum I’d love some input on, I have been riding bikes for 20 years plus mostly dh but the last 8 years more enduro/trail. At 5ft 5” I used to always get mediums as smalls where just too short however the last two bikes I have had where medium Santa Cruz megatowers (2nd one was a warranty...

I don’t post post much here but this is a subject I have a bit of experience with. For the past 3 years in a row I climbed over 750,000 feet each year and about 3000 miles each year so I have put a fair bit of hurt on components and bikes. I live in a steep area and ride...

Anyone here anything about a mullet Nomad being released by SC in a couple of weeks? I wouldn’t have believed it was true only it’s from a pretty reliable source

Five or so years ago I give conti tyres a shot and was plagued with tyre blowing off rims, the dh casing tyres stayed on fine but there lighter casing tyres just wouldn’t stay on the rim, I was really hoping they would be better this time round but sounds like same old problem. I also ran a der kaiser...
2010 Maribor was a big loss for hill as well, 5th place with a huge mistake, first race of the season and he was on the pace and looking to start it off right after disappointing 09 season, 2010 might have been a very different season if it where not for that mistake, he clearly had the pace in Maribor...

Definatley check out newmen sl30 alloy rims, I really rate them, I’ve had the same older gen1 hub set now for 3 1/2 years and the original front rim, the rear rim has been replaced twice in that time but a regular year for me is over 700,000 feet of climbing and descending so my stuff is well used on...

I have no problems admitting I'm a weirdo, ex XC racer, I can and like to do 2000 m vertical rides, I like technical traverses where you have some punchy climbs in the middle, where you have to pedal a bit, carry speed, etc. And I have no problems doing that on a normal bike, I don't feel like I need electricity. If I had ridden an eMTB for maybe a month, maybe it'd be different, what I have ridden (both the bikes, the amount of time and the terrain), the only 'benefit' was being up there a bit faster...

Craig_Nelson Added a reply to Santa Cruz dilemma...

I’m 5ft 6 and have ran full 29ers since 2018. My first one had super short chainstays and quite short reach and I did buzz my butt a fair bit on it. I got a medium santa cruz megatower about a year and a half ago and have had no problems since, the bike is balanced in the longer chain...

Just buy dt Swiss or Schwalbe rim tape and it will be fine, gorilla is ok if your stuck but it can be problematic, years ago it used to work better but I think they changed something with it. With DT/Schwalbe tape you can tape a rim and air it up and get going within minutes.

Can I ask what tune you have in the ohlins rear shock, really want to purchase one but there’s no info on what tune works for the megatower

Thanks Fantaman, but 565% is the max I would go. There’s no need for anything over 570%

Loved this podcast, being from the other side of the Atlantic I’d never heard of this dude but had seen a vid of the crash years ago, by the end of the podcast I loved this guy like a friend, very endearing genuine guy and inspirational. I was sad when the podcast ended. I love these podcasts, especially the ones of lesser known people who have a story to tell, keep it up!!!!

Personally I don’t run inserts, I can’t see the point of buying a light tire and then going and buying an insert to protect it and adding the weight back to it. I just run super gravity magics Mary’s front and rear and only have the very odd problem. A tire filled with air is expensive enough never mind going...
