lkubica Liked a comment about Feature Shorter Cranks - Are They for You?

So it all boils down to gearing and type of muscles you have, typically you will have better power output at higher cadence, but if you run out of gears you do not have higher cadence. So it's basically sh*t on really steep climbs cause it's where a typical 30x51 29er will cause you pedal slowly, if you are not Nino. Also there is a dropper problem here, I already have 210 dropper and would take 240 dropper, but having a 155mm crank would have to use 240 one. Also running O-Chain limits me to 30T upfront. So it is...

Velo, sick, thank you. It’s almost like road and mountain are different contexts and conclusions drawn in one won’t necessarily apply to the other.

I did a literature search on this topic when pb ran an article like this a few months ago. I’ve read the papers. Why on earth say there is a lot of research and then not mention the research? It’s a flex to imply the writer has done their homework and imply that their conclusions fit with what other researchers have found. Except what y’all wrote doesn’t agree with it, and it’s not clear any of y’all actually read it. Vital’s reviews stand up on their own. You don’t need to write this lab coat poser stuff. Who are you...

Cool3 Added a comment about feature 6 Mountain Bike Brakes Tested With Data - Vital Test Sessions

Of course, it all depends on what you're used to, I agree with you on that point, but the inherent flex of the MT7 stock lever also helps "fine tune" your braking vs the rigid levers of the XTRs. Obviously, the Maguras can indeed feel somewhat mushy if you're coming from more direct feeling brakes like the XTRs but I like this feeling. I've also rode several bikes with SRAM brakes (from low to top end) and never liked the feeling. To each his own, right?

Thanks for the test, although I strongly disagree with the fact that the XTR offer "Light lever feel with a gradual build in power = excellent braking control and modulation". Actually, it's the opposite in my experience. The XTR are quite on/off brakes (not as much as the Saint, but still). Actually, they offer far less modulation than the MT7, which I've been using for several years on different bikes. Also, your test does not touch base on the reliability of those systems. Even though I'm a big Magura fan, I could not stand the recurring and unpredictable losses of...

As above, fatherhood is definitely having a much bigger impact than economical factors or technological factors. I answered "about the same" even though the way I spend money has changed a lot. I used to buy an entry level bike between 2-3k every other year, and then spend tons on upgrades, constant changes of suspension wheels, brakes, tyres, pedals, grips etc etc. Now I spend a lot more (4-6k) upfront on an ebike every 2-3 years, but I barely upgrade it, as it just doesn't have as much affect on the ride quality as base geo and components are usually...

My bike stands in my room, I have to look at it a lot. I want a bike where I’m happy while I look at it and while I ride it. I also want a bike that’s easy to live with and service. imo looks and performance aren’t the only criteria for choosing a bike but definitely among the biggest. fortunately the Raaw Madonna fulfills all those points. Thought about getting a ripmo af but that top tube just ruined it for me. Designing a good looking frame does pose its challenges but there are enough companies able to do...

I'm glad bikes don't look like they used to... I couldn't really fit my answer into the poll options but it's similar to bikeboardorblade's. It's not a binary choice, I won't sacrifice one for the other; it has to be both.

Cool3 Added a comment about feature Battle of the BODs - Yeti vs. Specialized

Although not historically correct, I must say this Yeti is a beauty, but the simple, clean lines of the Specialized are something too... Yeti by a slight margin and because I'm a Yeti owner and longtime fan.

I’m no world cup mechanic, but zero issues ever with Magura bleeds. But then, it’s also all I’ve used really for 8-9 years. Super simple, but I never had to learn to work on crap brakes either and try to apply what I learned to good ones. FYI Magura lever shape grows on ya. Don’t like it? They have a fully adjustable version and choice of regular or one finger models. Comment about the screws: Never had an issue. Ever. But I also don’t try to see if I can boost my ego by cranking down screws stupid tight...
