I raced the Granby Ranch enduro a few weekends ago...busted one of my knuckles on a branch near the bottom of the 'blind stage'. I don't like the look of bark busters, but I wish I had them at that moment. Ouch!!

also do you even know how much weight is saved by being an extra small? so much less frame material, carbon saddle too. 29 lbs is quite reasonable.

It's an Enduro/Freeride bike and not a trail or XC bike. Most pro Enduro racers are running bikes about that weight as well. In addition, it has a coil, not air rear shock. So as Nismo325 said, 'why doesn't it make sense?:

And almost every other brand's bikes look like every other bike they product (Santa Cruz, Trek, Transition, etc. etc.). Not sure what you are going for there.

Specialized want to push the Stumpy. This is no more than the marketing guys having it their way. 'We won't be at too much of a disadvantage' says Loic. That pretty much sums it up. He'd rather be on his DH bike. Let's not forget that this race was won without a chain, so having a light bike that pedals well isn't really an advantage. A heavier bike with more suspension that maintains momentum over rough ground and jumps is way more important. Seems like a troll/joke. As others have pointed out, you can win without a chain, so why would a better pedaling bike be a good choice? There are always complaints about this track, but I find the live feed really good (way better than fort bill for example), the follow cam of Brendan and Troy a year or two ago was mint, and even without taking into account the amazing outlier runs of Gwin's chainless and tyreless attempts, some of the past runs of Smith and Vergier right on the knife's edge are great to rewatch.
