I am 220lb (225 with a pack on) and I have a 450 VALT spring on it. I think it's perfect. I was on the fence between 450-500 but went with 450 for less strength. I love it!

Hmm...first thanks for helping. I am 235lb/105kg at 6,4ft/196cm and also riding a Patrol in XL. Nice bike with enough space to play and work with the bike. At the moment I ride a SR Suntour Auron with a stock Monarch Plus, 4 instead of 2 Spacer and around 300psi. Using 90 to 95% travel at the local bikepark here in germany, but there aren't that big jumps like you may expect. Only well shaped drops and doubles, no big stuff. You use the most of the travel in the braking bumps before the corners. I may want to upgrade the cartridge of the fork to an pcs cartridge from the Durolux and a harder negative spring. But in the rear, Fox is to expensive for a 18yrs old pupil, now I'm thinking between a used Vivid Air for 300 euro or an Double Barrel Air CS for 380 euros. The Problem at the moment is the big force you need to compress the shock because of the high air preasure in the rear shock. Same problem in the fork with the 120psi, thats the reason for the harder negative spring. I'm scared that the "DH"-shocks also need that much force and thinking about getting a coil shock. I also have a DH-Bike with an normal Double Barrel Coil and I live in the same city where the distributor for Germany is located, so I may can get the CaneCreek Coil shock (whether Inline or the normal one) a litte bit cheaper...but im not sure that I can run the 500 Valt spring. I hope my riding style is aggressive enough...

I'm 6'3 and don't hit anything bigger than 5ft drops yet. Overall the climb switch is a huge game changer. This is my all mountain "do everything" bike so I didn't want to jeopardize climbing. It's pretty nice not having air because the coil sucks up a ton and has so much stability climbing steep rooty rocky climbs. I've been shocked I made it up a tough section with the amount of grip. New tires help, but overall it's an excellent purchase. I would recommend 500 VALT spring to start... you can always get the 450 if you think the 500 is too firm.

The climbing is great with the new climb switch. Honestly no pedal bob at all. Very responsive over rocks and roots when climbing or decending. The downhills were stupid fast and buttery smooth. It is very nice. If you're a weight wieney, you save a couple hundred grams with the VALT coil vs air shock.

you can control all rebound, low speed compression, high speed compression.... i have left mine with the factory settings and it was perfect for me out of the box. I have done 4-5 ft drops and haven't bottomed it out. It feels amazing on drops... absorbs it all, doesn't buck you at all.
