The Bruni interview I read the other day (in an ancient technology, paper magazine) sounded like hoping to be back by Les Gets was very optimistic compared to doctors opinions, and that this season being ruined made him consider retiring later than planned
Someone correct me if I'm getting details wrong, but:
His hand blows off the bars, completely unexpected, unexplainable (according to Bruni himself in an interview) causing a bad crash.
The same hand gets injured and his road to recovery has been slow and filled with roadblocks.
Maybe he had a preexisting condition or injury to that hand? And now we are hearing rumors of retirement?
Even if this is a career ending injury, hes done enough to solidify himself as one of the Greatest of all time.

J'ai fait bcp de kiné aussi ce saison estival pour le nerf aux bras/poingee/coudres. Its truely a mystery where it started from my nerve problems in my arms, wrists and elbows. How long it will last is a big question, it has greatly improved tho. On top, there is a tiny chance of age related arthritis. The mystery of nerve issues & previous injuries definitely could be a factor for Bruni's slow return. The only benefit for us fans is that if he returns fit he could stay around for a few more years like recent old boys have done in SX/moto.

Ya I agree, Vali is arguably the best ever female racer now, or on her way to really challenge Rachel and ACC. But Vali ain't untouchable, don't forget this time last year she still hadn't won a WC in the 2025 season. It seems the new team environment and having friends as team-mates works very well for her. But as we often have seen in World Cups these last few years, winning streaks don't last. I'm super interested to see how these lat two races go for Vali, seen as she has already won both titles this year!
I was looking at this thread and found myself wondering which riders are more or less "untouchable." By that I mean: Riders who I'd have a hard time imagining ever being available to any team but the one they're currently on. Established riders like Loic Bruni, Myriam Nicole, Amaury Pierron, and Troy Brosnan, and maybe some of the young riders (Goldstone, the Alrans, Vermette, for example) who are successful on their team and might have no apparent reason to chase money by switching. I realized that the list of "untouchables" might be kind of limited.
I think at the end of the day, the list of untouchables will be small, similar to many other sports (and DH racing is also pretty niche). However, I think if a rider is offered a big enough 💰 then no one is truly untouchable. Someone offers Asa twice as much as he’s getting and I’d imagine that would be a good incentive to move. In a sport where money is limited, getting what you can is important, unlike NBA/NFL/NHL stars taking a team-friendly discount deal when they’re already making millions.
